Concordia Freshman Tomasz Olfans Claims CACC Men's Tennis Weekly Honors

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (March 28, 2012) - Concordia freshman Tomasz Olfans (Opole, Poland) has been selected as the winner of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men's Tennis Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week awards for the period ending March 26.

Tomasz Olfans, Concordia (Fr., 5-11, Opole Poland)
Enjoyed a perfect week that saw him post a combined 8-0 record last week in singles/doubles. Played in the No. 4 singles and No. 3 doubles positions in matches against No. 33 Bluefield State, Chestnut Hill, No. 48 District of Columbia and Bloomfield - all of which resulted in team victories for the Clippers. Boasts a 9-3 record in singles this season and a 7-5 mark in doubles.
CACC Men's Tennis Honorable Mention
Mark Mozer, Concordia (Fr., 5-11, Brest, Belarus)
Posted a perfect 5-0 combined mark in singles/doubles last week. Improved to 11-1 on the year in singles action and 2-0 in doubles.
Alvaro Vargas, USciences (Sr., 5-8, Manizales, Columbia)
Went 2-0 in both singles and doubles last week while playing in the No. 1 position for both. Lost only one set on the week in singles play over two matches.
Steven Galerkin, USciences (Fr., 5-9, San Francisco, Calif.)
Went 2-0 playing in No. 3 singles slot and 2-0 while competing in No. 2 doubles during wins for the Devils over Cabrini and Post.
Mike Humes, Chestnut Hill (Fr., 5-8, Medford, N.J.)
Went 2-1 for the week in No. 1 singles and matched that mark while playing in No. 2 doubles in matches against Concordia, St. Thomas Aquinas and Caldwell last week. Posted 6-0, 6-0 singles win as No. 1 vs. Caldwell (3/21) and 6-1, 6-1 against St. Thomas Aquinas (3/23). Owns a 7-4 singles record for the season.
CACC Men's Tennis Team Notes
Caldwell - Caldwell won its first dual of the season, a 6-3 decision over Bloomfield in a non-conference meeting. Junior George Mikula won both of his matches at No. 3 singles and No. 2 doubles. Freshman Christopher Long and junior Chris Skarbelis also won their matches at first and fifth singles, respectively.
Concordia - Concordia went 4-0 this past week including home wins against #33 Bluefield St., 8-1, and #48 District of Columbia, 9-0. The Clippers also picked up two CACC victories to remain perfect at 3-0 in conference play. Concordia will play at Division I Fairleigh Dickinson on Monday and host Post on Wednesday. The Clippers will then travel to Pensacola, Fla. to battle #41 Delta St., #7 West Fla., and #1 Valdosta St.
