CONCORDIA SWEEPS CACC WEEKLY TENNIS AWARDS

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Tamas Dobrotka of Concordia College has been tabbed the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men's Tennis Player of the Week for the first report of the spring season. Daniele Piludu of Concordia earned Rookie of the Week status.

Dobrotka, a 6-5 senior from Ada, Serbia, went 5-1 in singles play and 5-1 in doubles against ranked competition to start the season, including a win over top-ranked Barry University. The Clippers are currently ranked eighth nationally.

Piludu, a freshman who hails from Cagliari, Italy, went 4-2 in singles with wins over St. Thomas Aquinas, FDU, Flagler and Rollins to start the spring. He also went 5-1 in doubles, including a 4-1 mark at the No. 1 position.

Honorable Mention

Manoli Sgouros, Philadelphia (Jr., 5-7, Forest Hills, NY) - Picked up four wins in one day to open the spring season, including a 2-0 mark at No. 1 doubles, against Stonehill and Tiffin. Manned the No. 3 singles spot.

CACC Team Notes

Concordia - The Clippers defeated #3 NAIA Embry-Riddle, 5-4, in five and a half hours in the team’s first match of their Florida spring break trip.  The following day they defeated #17 (now #12) Flagler 5-4.  The then defeated #6 Rollins 6-3.  Capping off the week the Clippers faced the defending NCAA DII Champions and then #1 (now #2) Barry University.  The Clippers defeated them 6-3 to sweep the week.  The Clippers head to Las Vegas for the Las Vegas Invitational as they will face Fresno Pacific, Abilene Christian and Hawaii Pacific. The Clippers moved up the ranks from #10 to #8 in the country and remain #1 in the East Region. 

Philadelphia - The Rams began the spring 2011 season with wins against Tiffin University and Stonehill College on Sunday (3/13) in Florida.  The squad will face three non-regional opponents in Florida this week before a March 19th date at home vs. University of the District of Columbia at noon.
