NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Chestnut Hill College sophomore Adrian Avena
was chosen the Player of the Week for Central Atlantic Collegiate
Conference (CACC) Men's Tennis for his performance last week.
CHC's Pat Joson was named Rookie of the Week.
Avena, a 6-2 sophomore from Vineland, N.J., went 2-0 in singles last week to help the Griffins beat St. Thomas Aquinas and the University of the District of Columbia. He also went 2-1 in doubles, with his only loss coming to Division I La Salle University.
Josen, a 5-8 freshman from Old Bridge, N.J., picked up one singles and one doubles win last week for the Griffins. He won in the No. 2 singles spot against La Salle and at No. 1 doubles against St. Thomas Aquinas.
CACC Team Notes
Chestnut Hill - The Griffins recorded two wins this week thanks to some motivating individual matches from sophomores Adrian Avena (Vineland, NJ) and Julius Twyman (Coatesvile, PA). Avena’s 7-5, 6-1 comeback win at #6 singles inspired the Griffins to a 6-3 win over STAC and Julius’ 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 win at #3 singles was the deciding point in CHC’s 5-4 win over UDC.
Concordia - The Clippers will face off against their first CACC opponent this Friday as they host Caldwell College at 3:00pm.
Philadelphia - The Rams opened their spring season in Orlando, Florida, where they went 1-3 during the tournament. They picked up their first win at home against East Stroudsburg University (3/21) by a score of 5-4. The team will compete in four conference matches this week against Caldwell (3/23), Bloomfield (3/25), Concordia (3/27) and Post (3/28).
