PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The top four singles seeds in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men’s Tennis Individual Tournament have advanced to the semi-final round after today’s opening action at Chestnut Hill College. The CACC singles and doubles champions will be decided Saturday. Play gets underway with the semi-finals of the singles tournament at 9:00am.

In singles, the top four seeds, including No. 1 Adrian Torroella-Cruz of Philadelphia University, will begin play tomorrow at 9:00 am. Cruz will face No. 4 Joe Boyle of Chestnut Hill. The other semi-final match will be No. 2 Ricardo Martins of USP against No. 3 Manoli Sgouros of Philadelphia.

In doubles, the top seeded team of Philadelphia’s Torroella-Cruz and Sgouros will take on Chestnut Hill’s Julius Twyman and Carson Richter for the doubles title.

Torroella-Cruz cruised to his semi-final spot in singles, upending CHC’s Twyman, 10-1, to start the day, then beating Post University’s Muamer Ahmedovic, 6-0, 6-0.

In doubles, Torroella-Cruz and Sgouros also had little trouble advancing to the championship, winning their matches by 8-0 and 8-2 scores.  Twyman and Richter won their two matches by identical 8-4 scores to reach the doubles championship.

Torroella-Cruz is the defending singles champion, having defeated teammate Sgouros for last season’s title. Cruz and Sgouros are also the defending doubles champions.
