CONCORDIA TENNIS TEAMS GARNER NUMEROUS AWARDS FROM ITA

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Two players from the Concordia women's tennis team and three from the men's team were honored by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) with East Region Awards. 

Cristina Oliveira was named the East Region Women's Senior Player of the Year.  Oliveira is 13-0 in singles and 14-1 in doubles for the 2009-2010 season and was tabbed the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Player of the Year in the team's inaugural season with the conference.  Cristina helped Concordia claim their first CACC Championship, and the team now heads back to the NCAA Sweet 16.

Kylene Murray was honored as the East Region Women's Tennis Assistant Coach of the Year.  Murray was a former player at Concordia. 

Alex Grubin was the choice for East Region Senior Player of the Year, going 13-3 in singles and 20-1 in doubles thus far in 2010.  Alex is also ranked as the No. 1 Singles Player in the Region and is one half of the top-ranked doubles team in the East.

Andreas Lindell was selected East Region Male Rookie of the Year.  With an 18-2 singles record and a 21-4 doubles mark, Lindell earned four CACC Rookie of the Week awards and helped lead the team to an undefeated conference regular-season record and a CACC Championship. Lindell continues to play well as the team heads back to the NCAA Sweet 16 this week. 

Finally, Dan Rockhill was named East Region Men's Assistant Coach of the Year.  Rockhill, the assistant for the men's team, has been in that position for 11 years and has earned this award several times.  Rockhill not only is a coach but is also a former player for Concordia.
