CACC Notes

Bloomfield - The Deacons came up on the short end of a pair of CACC matches this week, falling to Post 3-1 and Chestnut Hill 4-3.  Senior midfielder Juan Ramirez (Medellin, Columbia) notched a goal in each of the setbacks, bringing his 2011 total to four tallies through the campaign’s first five games.  Junior defender Jonathon Waters (St. Simond’s Island, GA) notched a pair of goals, his first as a member of the Bloomfield College program, in the loss against Chestnut Hill Saturday.  Senior forward Terry Gibbs (London, England) picked up his first assist of the season on Waters’ second goal against the Griffins.

Caldwell - The Cougars went 1-2 last week, beating Molloy 3-2 in double overtime and losing to Bridgeport and Post. Sophomore forward Mosiah Whyte continued to stay hot with three goals last week, including two against Molloy. He has scored a team-best eight goals in six games this season. Junior forward Facundo Zalazar converted a penalty kick in the 101st minute to give Caldwell the win over Molloy. This week the Cougars host Concordia on Tuesday in a game originally scheduled to be played in Bronxville, N.Y. Goldey-Beacom also comes to Caldwell Field on Saturday as a part of Homecoming festivities.

Chestnut Hill - Chestnut Hill College improved to 2-0 in the CACC with a 4-3 victory over Bloomfield College. It was the Griffins first win over the Deacons (1-3-1) since joining the CACC in 2007.

Concordia - The Clippers won their first game of the season on Saturday as they defeated Goldey-Beacom 1-0. Richard Heredia scored the lone goal in the game while Goalkeeper Oscar Acosta-Mendez recorded his first shutout. For the upcoming week, Concordia will face Caldwell and Holy Family.

Felician - Felician defeated Philadelphia on Saturday night for the first time in four all-time meetings against the Rams. Senior F Mike Azzato broke a 1-1 tie late in the first half for the eventual game-winner. Azzato’s four goals in 2011 surpass his career total before this season. Graduate student Adrian Sutcliffe was moved from defense to striker this week and had a hand in all three Golden Falcons goals on the week, scoring against both Mercy and Philadelphia and assisting on Azzato’s tally.

Goldey-Beacom - GBC, which was haunted by five one-goal losses last year, already has three in as many games to begin the 2011 campaign.

Holy Family - Holy Family improves to 4-1-0 overall and 2-0-0 in CACC action with a pair of victories this past week.  The Tigers defeated Queens College (3-1) in a non-conference match on Tuesday and capped the weekend with a CACC win over Dominican College (3-2).  Senior Seydou Ba tallied his third game-winning goal of the season against Dominican with his score in the 64th minute.  It marked his team-leading sixth goal of the year.

Philadelphia - PhilaU was outscored by opponents 4-1 this week. Ryan Purnell again led in the scoring category with one goal.  Sophomore Alex Heston recorded six saves on the week with three against both Wilmington and Felician.  This week the Rams head to C.W. Post (9/20), Dominican (9/25) and Millersville (9/28) for three consecutive road contests.

Post – Post went 2-0 this week to remain undefeated with a 4-0-2 overall mark and a 3-0 CACC mark. Last week the Eagles were ranked 5th in the East Region, the highest among CACC schools. Eltany Morais led the way with two first half goals in a home win against Bloomfield. On Saturday the Eagles topped Caldwell 3-1 on the road. This week presents a challenge for the Eagles with a trip to Dowling to take on the No. 4 team in the East Region. A year ago to the day the two teams played to a scoreless draw.
