NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Brandon Heembrock of Dominican College has claimed Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men's Soccer Player of the Week accolades for the week ending Sunday, Oct. 10. Philadelphia University's Mark Holman was tabbed Rookie of the Week.
Heembrock, a 6-2 junior goalkeeper from Ottawa, Canada, led Dominican to a 2-0 week with a pair of shutouts while stopping a total of 13 shots. He shut out Queens and conference rival Wilmington in a key 1-0 victory. He came up with six saves against the Wildcats.
Holman, a 5-10 freshman midfielder from New Orleans, La., collected five points on the week behind two goals and three assists. He assisted on the game-winning goal at Concordia, while adding an insurance goal in the second half of a 2-0 win.
Honorable Mention
Jorge Zapata, Wilmington (Sr., F, 6-1, Caracas, Venezuela) - Tallied two goals in 3-0 win over Goldey-Beacom. It was his second multi-goal game in 2010.
Eltany Morais, Post (So., F, Cape Verde Islands) - Scored two goals and added one assist in a 2-0 week for the Eagles.
Terry Gibbs, Bloomfield (Jr., F, London, England) - Found the back of the net twice in a victory over Holy Family.
Donald Kafer, Caldwell (So., M, Bordentown, NJ) - Netted an overtime goal to give Caldwell a 1-0 win over Nyack.
Team Notes
Bloomfield - The Deacons soared up the regional rankings this week, moving to 18th in the national NSCAA rankings and first in the East region in the NCAA regional rankings. The club lived up to the billing, notching a 3-1 victory over Holy Family University in their first action in 14 days. Junior forward Terry Gibbs notched a pair of goals on the day, bringing his total to nine scores on the season. Senior forward Dwayne Reid tallied his eighth goal of the season in the win. One of the most complete teams in the nation, Bloomfield currently ranks first in goals-per-game, and goals-against average, in the CACC.
Caldwell - The Cougars split a pair of CACC games last week, beating Nyack 1-0 in overtime on Tuesday and falling to Post on the road, 2-0 on Saturday. Sophomore midfielder Donald Kafer netted the game-winning goal in the 94th minute to give Caldwell the win at Nyack. Junior goalkeeper John Londono made seven saves for his third shutout of the season. The loss at Post ended the Cougars’ three-game winning streak. Caldwell plays non-conference games at C.W. Post and East Stroudsburg this week.
Chestnut Hill - The Griffins have won all five of their CACC contests via shutout, including four victories by a margin of 1-0. They at 6-1 at home and 3-0 when playing on the Chestnut Hill College Campus Field.
Felician - Felician has lost six games this season by a one-goal margin, including four by 1-0 scores.
Philadelphia - The Rams went 1-1 this week, improving to 6-1 in the CACC. The team has two conference road matches this week, at Wilmington (9/14) and then Bloomfield (10/16).
Wilmington - Senior forward Jorge Zapata tallied two goals in a 3-0 win over Goldey-Beacom to record his second multi-goal game of the season.
