2009 CACC Men's Soccer Weekly Award Winners

Aug. 31

Player of the Week: Ethan Kavanagh, Wilmington (So., GK, 6-5, Woodstown, NJ) - Led Wilmington to two wins in the opening week of the season, including a 2-1 victory over #19 East Stroudsburg. The only goal he allowed against ESU was on a penalty kick. He came up with nine saves on the week.

Co-Rookies of the Week: Chris Skarbelis, Caldwell (Fr., M, 5-5, North Andover, MA) and Travis Lobb, Philadelphia (Fr., D, 6-3, Lititz, PA) - Skarbelis and Lobb both notched their first collegiate goals in their first collegiate action last week. Skarbelis scored against Bloomsburg in a 2-1 loss. Lobb found the back of the net in his first collegiate game, a 4-3 loss to Millersville.

Sept. 8

Player of the Week: Joe Wright, Dominican (Sr., F, 6-0, Stratford-Upon-Avon, England) - Led Dominican to a 2-0 week with six points on two goals and two assists. Scored the game-winning goal in a 2-1 victory over AIC and assisted on the game-winner against Merrimack.

Co-Rookies of the Week: James Flaherty, Dominican (Fr., M, 5-8, London, England) and Ryan Purnell, Philadelphia (Fr., 5-8, Hamilton, Bermuda) - Both notched their first collegiate goals in victories last week. Flaherty scored the game-tying goal against American International in an eventual 2-1 win, and Purnell registered his goal against Wheeling Jesuit in a 2-0 victory.

Sept. 14

Player of the Week: Svetozar Gladic, Philadelphia (Sr., F, 5-11, Novi Sad, Serbia) - Led Philadelphia to a 2-0 week with four goals, including the game-winning score in both contests. Netted a hat trick in a CACC-opening win over Felician in a 3-1 triumph. Found the back of the net in overtime to give the Rams a 3-2 overtime win over East Stroudsburg.

Rookie of the Week: Pat Greer, Chestnut Hill (Fr., M, 5-9, Philadelphia, PA) - Scored the game-winning goal off a rebound from a direct kick in a 2-1 victory over NYIT.

Sept. 21

Player of the Week: Jorge Zapata, Wilmington (Jr., F, 6-2, Caracas, Venezuela) - Scored the game-tying goal in regulation against #3 nationally-ranked Millersville University, then tallied the game-winner six minutes into the overtime period in Wilmington's only action of the week.

Rookie of the Week: Alessandro Persampieri, Concordia (Fr., F, 6-1, Tuckahoe, NY) - Scored both of Concordia's goals last week, including a goal against nationally-ranked Dominican College, cutting DC's lead to 2-1 in the 67th minute of play.

Sept. 28

Player of the Week: Sargbah Tarpeh, Wilmington (Sr., F, 5-11, Philadelphia, PA) - Led the Wildcats to a 2-0 week with four goals and one assist. Had a hand in all five of Wilmington's goals on the week. Recorded a hat trick in a 3-2 win at Bloomfield and had one goal and one assist in a 2-0 triumph over Chestnut Hill.

Rookie of the Week: Facundo Zalazar, Caldwell (Fr., F, 6-0, Buenos Aires City, Argentina) - Found the back of the net three times in two contests last week. Scored twice against C.W. Post and had one goal against CACC foe Concordia.

Oct. 5

Player of the Week: Joe Wright, Dominican (Sr., F, 6-0, Stratford-Upon-Avon, England) - Registered four goals and one assist for the Chargers in a 2-0 week. He netted two goals and one assist in a conference victory over Chestnut Hill and added a pair of scores against Mercy.

Rookie of the Week: Ryan Lannutti, Chestnut Hill (Fr., F, 5-10, Calabasas, CA) - Found the back of the net against nationally-ranked Dominican, ending a three-game scoreless streak for the Griffins. The goal cut Chestnut Hill's deficit to 2-1 in an eventual 4-1 loss.
