WILMINGTON'S ZAPATA CHOSEN MEN'S SOCCER PLAYER OF THE WEEK

NEW HAVEN, CT - Wilmington University's Jorge Zapata was chosen Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men's Soccer Player of the Week for the week ending Sunday, Sept. 20. Alessandro Persampieri of Concordia College was named Rookie of the Week.

Zapata, a 6-2 junior forward from Caracas, Venezuela, scored the game-tying goal in regulation against #3 nationally-ranked Millersville University, then tallied the game-winner six minutes into the overtime period in Wilmington's only action of the week.

Persampieri, a 6-1 freshman forward from Tuckahoe, NY, scored both of Concordia's goals last week, including a goal against nationally-ranked Dominican College, cutting DC's lead to 2-1 in the 67th minute of play.

Honorable Mention

Joe Wright, Dominican (Sr., F, 6-0, Stratford-Upon-Avon, England) - Posted four goals and one assist in two games, including three scores at GBC.

Svetozar Gladic, Philadelphia (Sr., F, 5-11, Novi Sad, Serbia) - Recorded three goals in a 2-0 week, including two in a 3-1 win over Holy Family.

Angel Rodriguez, Goldey-Beacom (Sr., M, 5-8, Kennett Square, PA) - Had five goals and one assist in a 1-1 week, including four goals vs. CHC.

CACC Notes

Caldwell - The Cougars won their first CACC game of the season, blanking Chestnut Hill 3-0 on Saturday in Philadelphia, Pa. Sophomore William Yeates had two assists in his first game for Caldwell, while senior midfielder Justin Miller notched his first goal of the season. Sophomore goalkeeper John Londono made five saves to record his first career shutout. Londono made a career-high 10 saves in a loss at Dowling on Wednesday.

Dominican - The Chargers moved up to second in the East Region rankings and are currently ranked 17th in the nation.

Holy Family - Holy Family went 1-1-0 in a pair of CACC games last week. The Tigers opened the week with a 3-1 loss to Philadelphia. Jason Lopez scored the lone score for the Tigers. Tim Weglicki and Rich Morawski both scored in a 2-0 win over Felician on Saturday. Mark Ferretti made six saves in the win. This week, Holy Family takes on Lincoln and Nyack.

Nyack - In the first start of his college career, freshman Jodel Wright (Queens, NY) recorded 13 saves in Nyack's 1-1 tie against defending CACC champion Post University this past Thursday. The Warriors' goal came off the head of Daniel Ocampo (Mexico City, Mexico) on a corner kick from Bobby Caskran (Valrico, FL).

Philadelphia - The Rams went 2-0 this week, extending their winning streak to five games. Senior Svetozar Gladic continues to be the dominant offensive force for PhilaU, while senior goalie Buddy Custer makes the big plays on the defensive end. Custer went 2-0 in goal this past week, racking up 17 saves. Senior forward Emmanuel Asangmbeng scored the other game-winning goal of the week- vs. HFU. The Rams play two more contests this week - a home stint vs. Goldey-Beacom (9/22) and a road contest at Post (9/26).

Wilmington - The Wildcats ended a grueling first eight games with a record of 6-2. During that span they played three nationally-ranked teams and two regionally-ranked teams. Junior forward Jorge Zapata scored the tying goal in regulation and then the game-winning goal in overtime in a victory over #3 Millersville.
