BLOOMFIELD AND NYACK SET TO MEET FOR CACC MEN'S SOCCER CHAMPIONSHIP

NEW CASTLE, DE (November 4, 2009) - Top seeded and No. 12 nationally-ranked Wilmington University was upset in a shootout by No. 5 Bloomfield College today in the semi-final round of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men's Soccer Tournament in New Castle, DE. No. 7 Nyack College also scored an upset over No. 6 Post University by a 1-0 decision. The Deacons and Warriors will meet for the conference championship on Saturday, Nov. 7, at 11:00 am at the Kirkwood Soccer Complex.

Bloomfield (8-10-2) and Wilmington played to a 0-0, double overtime tie before having to settle things in a shootout. Both clubs connected on their first two kicks before Bloomfield junior goalie Steven Alonso made a spectacular diving save on Wilmington's third attempt. After sophomore Edwin Ventura scored on BC's third try, Wilmington junior Jamal Wiggins hit the cross bar with his attempt to leave Bloomfield up, 3-2. Bloomfield's Cristian Raigoza followed by finding the back of the net to give the Deacons the huge upset behind a 4-2 edge in the shootout.

Wilmington (19-2-1) junior goalie Duhan Malali made 10 saves on the day, while Alonso stopped seven shots for the Deacons. The loss snaps Wilmington's 15-match win streak.

Goals were also hard to come by in the afternoon match between Post and Nyack. The lone goal came in the 11th minute on a penalty kick by junior Daniel Ocampo, after a Post handball in the box. The Warriors were able to get the win despite getting out-shot, 19-6, by the Eagles. Warrior junior goalkeeper Adrian Ibanez made eight saves on the day.

Post ends the season with an 8-9-2 mark, while NC is now 9-11-1.
