THREE ROAD TEAMS WIN IN QUARTER-FINAL ROUND OF CACC MEN'S SOCCER TOURNAMENT

NEW HAVEN, CT (November 2, 2009) - Three lower-seeded teams took to the road this afternoon and earned victories in the quarter-final round of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men's Soccer Tournament. The only home team to win was top-seeded Wilmington University. Advancing to the semi-final round are No. 5 Bloomfield College, No. 6 Post University and No. 7 Nyack College. Wilmington and Bloomfield will meet in the first semi-final contest Wednesday at 11:00 am, while the Eagles and Warriors will play at 1:30 pm. Both games will be played at host Wilmington.

Wilmington, which entered the match ranked 12th in the latest NSCAA poll, defeated #8 Goldey-Beacom College, 2-0. After battling to a scoreless first half, the Wildcats finally broke through six minutes into the second half as senior forward Sargbah Tarpeh played a through ball back through the 18 yard box, where it found the foot of sophomore Nickalus McDonald. McDonald let a one-timer rip, and found the back of the net. Less than two minutes later, senior Probyn Allen took a pass from classmate Dave Dease, and let a shot loose from just above midfield. The ball curled over the Lightning keeper and gave the Wildcats some insurance with a 2-0 lead.

With the win, Wilmington's 14th straight, the Wildcats improved to 19-2 on the season, while Goldey-Beacom closed out the 2009 campaign with a 6-12 mark.

Nyack got past 23rd-ranked and No. 2 seed Dominican College by a 1-0 decision. The game was scoreless until the 79th minute when freshman Mikey Robinson retrieved a ball cleared by the Charger defense and put a shot past the DC keeper for the game- winning goal. Warrior goalie Adrian Ibanez made six saves in the victory. With the win, Nyack improves to 8-11-1 overall, while the Chargers fall to 13-3-2.

Senior forward Maurice Johnson scored a pair of goals to lead Post past No. 3 Holy Family University, 2-0, in Philadelphia. Johnson got the Eagles on the board at 8:26 by bending a shot from 25 yards away into the left corner. He struck again with an insurance goal in the second half by scoring on a corner kick that was taken by senior midfielder Johan Pineda at 76:21. Johnson got off 13 shots in the contest, while the Tigers managed only 10 as a team. In goal, freshman Errol Reid stopped both shots on goal to earn the shutout.

The Tigers end the season with a record of 11-6-1, while Post improves to 8-8-2.

Bloomfield scored three times during a nine-minute span in the second half to put the game away against No. 4 Philadelphia University. The Deacons broke their silence just six minutes into the second half, getting a zinger and the eventual game-winner off the foot of Jason Bryan to go up 1-0.  Just seven minutes later, Terry Gibbs knocked in a header for the second goal, and Gibbs scored again three minutes later to make it 3-0. BC's Edwin Palomo touched in the Deacon's final goal with seven minutes remaining to make the final 4-0.

Bloomfield's Steven Alonso made a CACC Tournament record 15 stops for the Deacons. BC enters the semi-finals with an 8-10-1 record, while the Rams end the season with an 11-7 mark.
