WILMINGTON AND DOMINICAN SELECTED TO PLAY IN NCAA MEN'S SOCCER REGIONAL

NEW HAVEN, CT (November 10, 2009) - Wilmington University and Dominican College have been selected to participate in the 2009 NCAA Division II Men's Soccer East Region Tournament. Wilmington will serve as the No. 2 seed, while Dominican earned the fourth seed. The regional will be hosted by two schools, Southern New Hampshire University and Le Moyne College.

The Regional final between the winner of the Manchester Regional and the Syracuse Regional will take place on November 21 or 22, with the winner advancing to the NCAA semifinals. The semifinals and final will be played on December 3 and 5 at the University of Tampa. 

Wilmington has earned its first NCAA Regional Men's Soccer berth. The Wildcats will play the winner of sixth-seeded Southern Connecticut State University and third-seed and host Southern New Hampshire University on Saturday, Nov. 14 at 1:00 pm.

Wilmington, which is ranked 13th nationally, was the regular season champion of the CACC with a 19-2-1 overall mark during the season and a perfect 11-0 CACC record. One of the Wildcats' two losses came to Southern New Hampshire back on September 5th. WU enters the game riding a 16-game unbeaten streak (15-0-1). They are led by CACC Player of the Year, Sargbah Tarpeh, who led the squad in goals (21), assists (12), game winning goals (7), and points (54). Wilmington had four other players named to the All-CACC first team in defenders Dave Dease and Jamal Wiggins and midfielders Nickalus McDonald and Fatoma Turay.

This will be the Dominican's third appearance in an NCAA Regional Tournament. The Chargers (13-3-2) will square off in first round action against the fifth seeded Ravens of Franklin Pierce University at Le Moyne.  The winner will take on the top-seeded Dolphins on Sunday in the regional semi-finals.

Dominican has been regionally and nationally ranked for most of the 2009 season and finished in second place in the CACC regular-season standings.  The team is led by three-time All- CACC First Team selection, forward Joe Wright.  Wright, a senior, leads the team and is ranked second in the CACC with 15 goals on the year.  He also leads the team and ranks second in the conference in points (34), points per game (2.12) and goals per game (0.94).  Sophomore keeper Brandon Heembrock, a two-time All-CACC selection, has started all 16 games in the net this season.  He leads the conference in goals against average (0.79), save percentage (.875) and shutouts (6).  He also ranks third in saves (91) and fifth in saves percentage (5.69).  Anchoring the Charger defense is first team All-CACC selection, Clifton Huxtable.
