PHILADELPHIA, PA -- Upper Merion High School's John Friskey has signed a letter of intent to play soccer at Holy Family University starting in the 2008 season. The announcement was made by Holy Family men's soccer coach Mike Bradby on Friday.

"John has unbelievable speed and athleticism. His on-field presence and ability to put the ball in the net will help us continue to be successful in the future," said Bradby. "Another thing that attracted me to John were his leadership qualities."

Friskey was a striker for four years at Upper Merion. He tallied 40 goals and 29 assists for a total of 109 career points. As a senior, Friskey was a first team All-American Conference and a first team All-Area selection. In 2006, he earned second team All-Area and third team All-American Conference honors.

Friskey is the 12th high school senior to sign on to play for the Tigers.

"We're going to be a young team next year," stated Bradby. "How quickly John and the other newcomers can get integrated and become leaders themselves will be important to our success."

Holy Family begins its 2008 campaign at the Wilmington Tournament in Wilmington, Del. The Tigers open against Millersville University on Thursday, August 28 at 1:30 p.m.
