NYACK'S CONWAY PICKED BY CHICAGO FIRE IN MLS SUPPLEMENTAL DRAFT

NYACK, NY - On Thursday afternoon, January 24th, the Chicago Fire of Major League Soccer drafted senior Tim Conway of Nyack College with a fourth round pick (48th overall) in the 2008 Supplemental Draft. Conway is the first player ever drafted out of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) and from Nyack College.

Tim spent extended time over winter break between semesters in Florida at the Info Sport Combine. This combine was a showcase for mostly Division II and III players to exhibit their skills in front of MLS coaches as well as the feeder league coaches for the MLS, which is the USL division I and II. There were over 200 players there that featured about 200 field players and 25-30 goalies. By the end of the combine Tim ranked within the top 15-18 players and his coach said that he was going to enter his name onto the draft list for the supplemental draft.

Tim is very excited about this opportunity and really feels blessed. "I am totally honored and blessed by the Lord," stated Conway. "I'm really excited and feel that I am completely capable of making the team. I know that I will have to work hard in the upcoming weeks so that I can be ready for preseason. I'm just totally thrilled."

The preseason team will consist of approximately 33-35 players. The final roster number is 28.

Conway was a four-year starter, two-year Captain and four-year All-Conference player while attending Nyack College. He was voted as the CACC Newcomer of the Year in his freshman year and was named Player of the Year during his junior year. His junior year also saw Conway garner First Team All-American honors form the National Christian Collegiate Athletic Association when he scored 16 goals and added four assists.

Nyack Head Coach Keith Davie is glowing and stated, "I am so proud of this accomplishment for Tim. He has been a joy to watch develop and he deserves this honor. Now the hard work begins of proving himself everyday. He is one of four Division II soccer players from the entire nation to be drafted by the MLS and he will have to fight the good fight every day to prove he belongs. I have no doubt that he belongs there, and he is a very determined athlete who raises his level to meet bigger challenges. He will be great."

Conway leaves for physicals in Chicago on Sunday, February 3rd, and then will board a plane for a two-week pre-season training (Feb. 6-20) in Florida where the team will make its final decisions for the upcoming season. By March 3, all 14 teams will have to be roster and salary budget compliant, meaning they must be at or under the 28-player roster maximum and must fall under the League's salary cap requirement.

The Nyack College family wishes Tim great success.

Tim is the son of Ed and Jan Conway of Billerica, Massachusetts.
