Goldey-Beacom Sweeps Player and Rookie of the Week Awards

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - A.J. Picard and Marcus Porter of Goldey-Beacom both have been selected as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Player and Rookie of the Week.

CACC Player of the Week

A.J. Picard, Goldey-Beacom (So., G, 6-1, Skippack, PA) averaged 21.0 points, 3.5 assists, 3.5 rebounds, and 0.5 turnovers while shooting 60% from the floor. He also shot 50% behind the arc scoring 21 of his 42 points on the week from downtown. 

CACC Rookie of the Week

Marcus Porter, Goldey-Beacom (Fr., G, 6-4, Wilmington, DE) scored 48 points on the week while averaging 7.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 2.0 steals, and 1.5 turnovers in a 1-1 week for the Lightning. This is his second CACC Rookie of the Week Honor.

Honorable Mention

John Tello, Felician (Sr., C, 6-6, Ridgefield Park, NJ) - Averaged 24.0 points, 7.0 rebounds while shooting 51.4% from the field.

Nikola Otovic, Caldwell (Sr., G, 6-1, Kraljevo, Serbia) - Averaged 25.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.5 assist while make 16 foul shots. Scored career high of 34 points in a win against Dominican. 

Cory Quimby, Dominican (Jr., C, 6-6, Otisville, NY) - Registered his fourth and fifth double-double this past week, averaging 19.0 points and 12.0 rebounds. 

Marvin Williams, Bloomfield (Fr., G, 6-0, Jersey City, NJ) - Recorded 14.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game. 

Temi Adebayo, Philadelphia (Sr., C, 7-0, Ibadan, Nigeria) - Scored 17 points, 9 rebounds, and 6 block shots in win over Wilmington.  

CACC Notes

Bloomfield College - The Deacons went 1-1 for the week, picking up a non-conference home victory over the University of Bridgeport.  Three players totaled at least 20 points in the win, with senior forward Matt Wafula (Harlem, N.Y.) totaling 21 points and six rebounds.  Ahmad Harris (Linden, N.J.) continued his brilliant play by netting 20 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and a pair of steals, while Terry Hicks (Neptune, N.J.) totaled 20 points and three steals. Hicks was the top scorer in the team's road loss to Caldwell College Saturday, totaling 19 points in the setback.  Harris totaled 14 points, eight rebounds and a game-high six assists, while rookie guard Marvin Williams (Jersey City, N.J.) totaled a career-high 17 points and 5 rebounds in 26 minutes of action.  For the week, Hicks averaged 19 points per game to lead the club, while Harris averaged an outstanding 17 points, 7.5 rebounds and 6.5 assists over the two-game stretch.  Williams averaged 14.5 points and 1.5 steals per contest for the week. 

Caldwell College - Caldwell won a pair of CACC North Division battles last week, defeating Dominican 76-69 on the road on Wednesday before beating Bloomfield 73-70 at home on Saturday. Senior guard Nikola Otovic scored a career-high 34 points at Dominican, hitting four three pointers and grabbing seven rebounds in the win. The performance marked the highest offensive output by a Cougar since Manny Perez scored 35 points on Jan. 20, 2009. Freshman forward Michael Balkovic did not miss against Dominican, making all seven of his field goal attempts and going 4-of-4 from the line en route to 18 points. Against Bloomfield, senior guard Anthony Gill and Otovic each tallied 16 points, with Otovic recording a career-high eight rebounds in the victory. The Cougars hit the road for three CACC games this week, starting with Tuesday's clash with Felician. Caldwell plays at Concordia on Thursday and at Chestnut Hill on Saturday.

Chestnut Hill College - Head Coach Jesse Balcer and the Chestnut Hill College men's basketball team sit three wins shy of the their 100th individual and 100th program victory, respectively.

Concordia College - Concordia (4-3, 1-1 CACC) is above .500 after the first seven games for the first time since the 1995-96 season. Last week they split their two conference games and play Nyack and Caldwell this week. On Tuesday, the Clippers will host the Warriors at 7 p.m. and on Thursday they will host the Cougars at 7 p.m.

Felician College - Senior F/C John Tello scored a career-high 30 points on 12-16 shooting in Felician's 83-71 loss at Post on Saturday.

Goldey-Beacom College - The Lightning, had a thrilling, 72-71 win over Holy Family on Saturday, now have won nine straight regular season conference games at the Joseph West Jones Center dating back to last year.

Philadelphia University - The Rams delivered another win over Wilmington University (Del.) courtesy of outstanding offensive performances from senior Temi Adebayo (17) and Freshman Nick Schlitzer (19). The Rams spring back to action on Friday (12/9) at 3:00 PM when they head up to Springfield Massachusetts to take on American International.

Post University - Post University will be on the road for two games this week as they begin to swing into conference play. Thursday night the Eagles make a trip to Bloomfield before taking on USciences in Philadelphia on Saturday. Only four games remain on the 2011 slate with games against Le Moyne and Bridgeport to round out the year.

University of the Sciences - The Devils defeated Millersville University for the first time in seven meetings, leading wire-to-wire and recording a 87-71 win. Will Kernan (Medford, N.J.) led the way with 19 points and 7 assists. Patrick Connaghan (Warrington, Pa.) had his first double-double of the season against Millersville with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Kernan will be honored as a Sam Cozen Player of the Week at the Philadelphia Area Small College Coaches Association luncheon on Monday, December 5   (Now in its 25th season, the Philadelphia Area Small College Coaches Association has over 20 member  schools, (Division II, Division II or JUCO) all from the Philadelphia area, including five CACC men's basketball programs. The organization holds 6 luncheons during the season to help promote small college men's basketball in the Philadelphia Area).
