Kerr Scores CACC Men's Basketball Player of the Week
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Garret Kerr of University of the Sciences has been selected as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Player of the Week. Caldwell's Kevin Walker is named CACC Rookie of the Week.
CACC Player of the Week
Garret Kerr, USciences (Fr., G, 6-3, Moorestown, NJ) Recorded back-to-back 15 rebound games and scored 30 points against Philadelphia and 20 points against East Stroudsburg. Also contributed six assist and three steals on the week.
CACC Rookie of the Week
Kevin Walker, Caldwell (Fr., G, 5-10, Bayonne, NJ) Averaged 11 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.5 steals per contest this week while scoring 15 of his points against Queens.
Honorable Mention
Brandon Fox, Wilmington (Jr., F, 6-5, Deptford, NJ) - Scored 29 points against the University of Indianapolis while grabbing 11 rebounds in back-to-back games.
Jim Connolly, Philadelphia (Jr., G, 6-3, Harleysville, PA) - Recorded 24 points and 8 assists in a win over USciences.
Matt Wafula, Bloomfield (Sr., F, 6-6, Harlem, NY) - Poured in 24 points and 16 rebounds in a win against Adelphi.
Cory Quimby, Dominican (Jr., C, 6-6, Otisville, NY) - Collected his 5th 20+ point performance and his 8th double-double in a win over St. Thomas Aquinas.
CACC Notes
Bloomfield - The Deacons picked up a pair of marquee non-conference victories this week, topping Northeast-Ten opponents Adelphi University and The College of Saint Rose at the annual Adelphi Holiday Tournament. Senior forward Matt Wafula (Harlem, N.Y.) averaged 16 points and nine rebounds over the two-game stretch, posting an outstanding 24-point, 16-rebound performance against Adelphi Saturday afternoon. Sophomore guard Terry Hicks (Neptune, N.J.) drained what would prove to be the game-winning three in the final minute against Adelphi, and averaged 13 points per game for the weekend. Senior point guard Ahmad Harris (Linden, N.J.) tallied averages of 7.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 7.0 assists and 5.0 steals for the weekend, continuing his outstanding all-around play in the backcourt for Bloomfield. Rookie guard Marvin Williams (Jersey City, N.J.) joined Harris in making a significant impact on the perimeter, averaging 13.5 points and going for at least 13 points in each game to help key the attack.
Caldwell - Caldwell split a pair of non-conference
games, losing to St. Michael's College 63-58 at the Newman Center
on Dec. 17 and beating Queens, 82-68 on the road on Dec. 19. Senior
guard Nikola Otovic scored 20 of his game-high 23 points in the
second half of the win over Queens. The outburst helped Caldwell
overcome a 10-point Knights' lead. Freshman guard Kevin Walker
contributed 15 points, seven boards and four assists. Against St.
Michael's, the Cougars staged another second-half comeback,
reducing a 19-point deficit to one point in the game's final two
minutes. Otovic led the Cougars with 18 points and six rebounds,
while senior guard Anthony Gill added 15 points and four
assists.
Concordia - Concordia faced the Northeast-10 Conference's
Southern Conn. St. on Sunday afternoon in their only game for the
week. The Clippers trailed by as many as 28 points in the second
half and managed to get within seven points of the lead with less
than seven minutes to play. Concordia was unable to complete their
miraculous comeback as the Owls came out with a 94-81 victory.
Argelix Gil (Brooklyn, NY) led the Clippers with 23 points on
8-of-13 shooting from the field while adding a game-high 14
rebounds and recording two blocks and an assist. The Clippers will
be back in action on Dec. 30th at Bentley for a 7pm game.
Dominican - Dominican improve to 6-3 with a
victory over STAC. In the game, junior guard Leon Porter netted his
1,000th point in the second half. Center Cory Quimby recorded his
8th double-double of this season.
Philadelphia - The Rams (5-4, 3-0 CACC) won its
only game of the week by a score of 78-56 over the University of
the Sciences on Saturday. Jim Connolly hit six of the team's 15
three-pointers on his way to a season-high 24 points. Corey
Francisco added 20 points and eight rebounds, while Nick Schlitzer
scored 16. It was Philadelphia's first win away from the Gallagher
Center this season. Temi Adebayo is fourth in the nation in blocks
per game with 3.6. Philadelphia is off until Dec. 29 when it hosts
Assumption in the East Region Classic. The Rams face Stonehill on
the 30th.
USciences - Garret Kerr (Moorestown, N.J.) became
the first Devils basketball player to score 30 points in a game
since Jeff Miller accomplished the feat with a 35-point effort in
March 2004. Kerr ranks 34th nationally in rebounding (9.0/game) in
the most recent NCAA statistics report. Teammate Patrick Connaghan
(Warrington, Pa.) is 74th in rebounding, averaging 8.0/game. The
Devils as a team are 75th in scoring defense, giving up just 66.1
points per game.
