GILL AND SCHLITZER BOTH EARN VICTORIES AND CACC HONORS

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (Nov. 28, 2011) - Caldwell's Anthony Gill has been named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Player of the Week. Nick Schlitzer of Philadelphia University earns his first Rookie of the Week.

CACC Player of the Week

Anthony Gill, Caldwell (Sr., G, 5-11, New Rochelle, NY) - Scored 27 points in a 82-81 win over NYIT. Shot 11 of 17 from the floor including four shots from behind the arc. Contributed three steals and two assist on the win.

CACC Rookie of the Week

Nick Schlitzer, Philadelphia (Fr., G, 6-5, Pottsville, PA) - Contributed 18 points, 4 rebounds, three assist and two steals in a victory over St. Thomas Aquinas. 

Honorable Mention

Ahmad Harris, Bloomfield (Sr., G, 5-9, Linden, NJ) - Averaged 13.7 points, 10.0 assists, 5.0 rebounds while going 2-1 on the week. 

John Tello, Felician (Sr., C, 6-6, Ridgefield Park, NJ) - Connected on 11 of 21 shots scoring 29 points and grabbing 6 rebounds.  

Marcus Porter, Goldey-Beacom (Fr., G, 6-4, Wilmington, DE) - Continued strong showing averaging 21.0 points and 8.5 rebounds. 

Corye Payton, Wilmington (Sr., G, 6-4, Burlington, NJ) - Shot 65.0% from the field scoring 17.5 points per game and only turning over the ball twice. 

CACC Notes

Bloomfield Deacons
went 2-1 this week, picking up non-conference victories over Dowling College and the University of Missouri-St. Louis.  Senior point guard Ahmad Harris averaged 13.7 points, five rebounds and 10 assists per contest over the three-game stretch, leading the Deacons in assists in each game and going for a team-high 25 points in the club's loss to Kentucky Wesleyan Saturday. Senior forward Matt Wafula led the Deacons in scoring, averaging 14.3 points and 4.7 rebounds per game, while sophomore forward Kevin Udo posted averages of 9.7 points and 10.7 rebounds to provide outstanding play in the frontcourt.  Freshman Matthew Hall continued his solid play in reserve, averaging 11.3 points and 5.7 rebounds per game for the week. 

Caldwell won its only game of the week, an 82-81 decision over NYIT in Old Westbury, N.Y., on Tuesday. Senior guard Anthony Gill made 4-of-5 from three-point range en route to a career-high 27 points to lead the Cougars. Caldwell trailed by six points with less than three minutes to play before senior guard Don Trifari caught fire, hitting two threes and scoring eight points in the final two minutes. Freshman forward Michael Balkovic tallied 10 points, six rebounds and two steals, while senior center Peter Diffley added nine points and a team-high 10 rebounds. The Cougars begin CACC play this week with a game at Dominican on Wednesday and a home game with Bloomfield on Saturday.

Chestnut Hill senior forward Dan Comas conquered a personal milestone this week by scoring the 1,000th point of his collegiate career with 1:10 remaining in the first half against West Chester University on Tuesday, November 22. He is the fifth member of the men's basketball program to reach the 1,000-point plateau.

Concordia will open up their CACC schedule this Wednesday when they travel to Felician College for an 8pm game. The Clippers will wrap up their week with a showdown against Dominican (N.Y.) on Saturday, December 3. The CACC game will begin at 3pm as Concordia looks to begin their conference schedule on the right foot after beginning the season 3-2.

Philadelphia University Rams delivered another win over St. Thomas Aquinas courtesy of outstanding offensive performances from senior Corey Francisco (19) and Freshman Nick Schlitzer (18). The Rams spring back to action on Saturday (12/3) at 3:00 PM when they face off against Wilmington University in a conference matchup.

Post University played one game this week falling to Bridgeport 83-77. This week, the Eagles play their first home games of the season hosting C.W. Post on Wednesday November 30 and Felician on Saturday.
