RUTHERFORD, N.J. (May 24, 2012) – Felician College graduate Devon Young '11 recently completed a successful four-game professional stint with the Jersey G-Force of the International Basketball League. Young is the fifth former Golden Falcon to sign a professional basketball contract, but the first to do so in the United States.
The IBL, based in Vancouver, Wash., is in its eighth season. It recently expanded to the east coast with a team in Albany, N.Y., before adding the G-Force for 2012. As a "branding team," the G-Force played only a quarter of the full IBL schedule, or six gam es.
The IBL has placed more than 200 players in the NBA Developmental League or in overseas professional leagues, according to its website.
Young, a native of Monmouth Junction, missed the G-Force's first two games in Edmonton, Alberta, due to injury. In his team's first-ever home contest, against the Orlando Venom at Bergen Community College on May 11, he scored 32 points. He averaged 17.3 points four his four-game stay.
Young will spend the summer attending exposure camps searching for his next chance.
"I was excited about this opportunity because I've been working hard since graduation to continue my basketball career," Young said. "These next few months coming up are going to be very important. My family and close friends have supported me during this whole process, I've kept my faith in God, and I am very excited to see what the future brings."
The 6-foot-3, 215-pound Young is Felician's all-time leading scorer, and one of the most decorated athletes ever to attend the school. A Capital One Academic All-American and an all-region performer as a senior, he scored 1,958 points as a Golden Falcon. He is a 2007 graduate of South Brunswick High.
"I'm very proud of Devon," said Felician head coach David DeFerrari. "We're glad that he is representing Felician in the professional ranks. There's not a player who deserves it more."
Other Felician basketball players to sign pro contracts are Julius David '02 (Philippines), Bilal Rodgers '03 (Sweden), Michael Pierrot '07 (several), and Ethan Kennedy '10 (Australia).
