Goldey-Beacom Holds Off Dominican 72-66 in Overtime in CACC Men's Basketball Semifinals

CALDWELL, N.J. (March 2, 2012) – Rich Flemming posted a double-double with 26 points and 12 rebounds as Goldey-Beacom College held on for a 72-66 overtime win over Dominican College on Friday afternoon in the Central Atlantic Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Semifinals at Caldwell College.

The Lightning (18-10) now advance to Saturday’s CACC Men’s Basketball Championship Game where they will battle North Division regular season champion Bloomfield (23-7), which defeated Philadelphia 72-63 in Saturday’s other conference semifinal.  Tip time for Saturday’s CACC Men’s Basketball Championship Game is 4:00 p.m. (ET).

Domincan (19-9) opened a 17-12 advantage at the 11:12 mark of the first half and managed to hold onto the lead going into intermission at 32-29 despite only shooting a .393 (11-of-28) clip from the field.

Goldey-Beacom took its first lead since the 4:55 mark of the first half at 49-48 on a layup by Marcus Porter at 7:36 of the second half which started a stretch that saw two ties and three lead changes over the remainder of regulation, which saw the score knotted at 58-58, forcing the extra session.

The Lightning out-scored the Chargers 14-8 in overtime, which was spurred by a 10-of-11 performance from the free throw line over the extra five minutes.

CACC Co-Player of the Year Cory Quimby paced Dominican in the loss with 24 points and nine rebounds, while Leon Porter added 20 for the Chargers.
