NEW HAVEN, Conn. (March 4, 2012) – Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) members Bloomfield College (automatic) and Philadelphia University (at-large) received bids to the 2012 NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Tournament, following the NCAA Selection Show Sunday night.
The Deacons (24-7), the No. 5 seed in the East Region, will open play against No. 4 seed UMass-Lowell (19-10/Northeast-10/at-large) on Saturday, March 10 at 8:30 p.m.
The Rams (19-9), the No. 8 seed in the East Region, will open play against No. 1 seed Franklin Pierce (21-7/Northeast-10/at-large) on Saturday, March 10 at 6:00 p.m.
The East Regional will be held at Andrew Laska Gymnasium on the campus of Assumption College in Worcester, Massachusetts from March 10-13. Franklin Pierce will serve as the host institution.
Bloomfield is coming off a 62-50 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship game victory over Goldey-Beacom College on Saturday. The Deacons are 24-7 this season and won the CACC North Division Regular-Season Championship with a 15-3 conference mark.
This marks Bloomfield's second consecutive NCAA Tourney bid as it advanced to the Elite Eight last season as the No. 7 seed out of the East Region.
Philadelphia advanced to the semifinals of the 2012 CACC Conference Tournament before falling to Bloomfield 72-63. The Rams posted a regular-season mark of 19-9 and finished tied for first in the CACC South Division at 13-4.
