BLOOMFIELD RECEIVES NO. 7 SEED FOR NCAA MEN'S BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT
NEW HAVEN, Conn. (March 7, 2011) – The
Bloomfield College men's basketball team has earned the seventh
seed in the East Region in the upcoming NCAA Division II
Tournament, according to an announcement made by the NCAA Sunday
night. The Deacons will play No. 2 American International College
in the opening round Saturday at 2:30 pm.
The East Regional will be held at Bentley University in Waltham,
Massachusetts, with the opening round beginning on Saturday, March
12. Bloomfield fell to the Yellow Jackets in a 75-65
early-season road setback on November 20 despite 27 points from
CACC Tournament MVP Gage Daye.
Bloomfield is coming off a 94-81 Central Atlantic Collegiate
Conference (CACC) Championship game victory over Goldey-Beacom
College Saturday night. The Deacons are 21-8 this season and won
the CACC North Division Regular-Season Championship with a 15-3
CACC mark.
After finishing second in the Northeast Ten Conference regular
season standings, AIC fell to Adelphi University in the
quarterfinal round of the NE-10 Tournament on February 28.
"Obviously, this game is going to mean a lot more than our meeting
with AIC early on in the season," Bloomfield head coach Gerald
Holmes said. "We've come a long way since that
game, as I'm sure they have too. They're a great team, and it
will certainly be a great challenge for us. We're anxious to
get up to Bentley and take them on."
