2009-10 CACC Men's Basketball Weekly Award Winners
November 16
Player of the Week: Devon Young, Felician (Jr., F, 6-3, Monmouth Junction, NJ) - Posted 31 points, seven rebounds and five assists to lead the Golden Falcons to a season-opening win at Southern Connecticut State. Shot 12-for-17 from the field and 2-for-3 from long range.
Rookie of the Week: Trevon Hamlet, Post (Fr, F, 6-6, Brooklyn, NY) - Registered 20 points and nine rebounds in his first collegiate game at No. 9 Bentley College. He shot 10-for-17 from the field.
November 23
Player of the Week: Gage Daye, Bloomfield (Jr., G, 6-2, Newark, NJ) - Was named MVP of the Alaska-Fairbanks Tournament by averaging 32.2 points, 4.3 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.67 steals per-game. Shot 52-percent (33-for-63) from the field for the week and 84-percent (26-for-31) from the charity stripe. Tallied 33 points, five assists, three rebounds and one block against Alaska-Fairbanks.
Rookie of the Week: Trevon Hamlet, Post (Fr, F, 6-6, Brooklyn, NY) - Averaged 18.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.67 assists per-game while shooting 50-percent (20-for-40) from the field in a 2-1 week. He posted 26 points and seven rebounds in a win at Bridgeport and added 20 points and six rebounds at Franklin Pierce.
November 30
Player of the Week: Ryan Cook, Chestnut Hill (So., G, 6-2, Laurel, NJ) - Led the Griffins to a win over Dowling with 30 points, 10 rebounds and two assists. Shot 11-for-18 from the field and 7-for-10 from long range. Added one steal on the night.
Rookie of the Week: Mark DiRugeris Jr., Chestnut Hill (Fr., G, 6-1, Woodbury, NJ) - Recorded 10 points, four assists, two rebounds and one blocked shot in a victory over Dowling.
December 7
Player of the Week: Kyle White, Goldey-Beacom (Sr., G, 5-10, Georgetown, DE) - Averaged 24.7 points, 7.7 rebounds and 5.0 assists per-game in a 2-1 week for the Lightning. Shot 47.9-percent (23-for-48) from the field and 78.1-percent (25-of-32) from the free-throw line. Poured in 28 points, including the game-tying lay-up at the buzzer to force overtime in an eventual win over Shippensburg. He also notched a double-double against Washington Adventist with 20 points and 10 rebounds.
Rookie of the Week: Mark DiRugeris, Jr., Chestnut Hill (Fr., G, 6-1, Woodbury, NJ) - Posted averages of 13.0 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals per-game in two contests. Registered 18 points, four steals and three rebounds against Kutztown.
December 14
Player of the Week: Terrence Parkes, Goldey-Beacom (Jr., F, 6-6, New Rochelle, NY) - Posted averages of 19.0 points and 12.7 rebounds per-game in a 3-0 week for the Lightning. Registered 26 points and 17 rebounds in a win at Chestnut Hill and shot 11-for-17 from the field. Added 15 points, nine rebounds and three assists in a win at Philadelphia.
Rookie of the Week: Leon Porter, Dominican (Fr., G, 5-6, Laurel, MD) - Helped lead the Chargers to two CACC wins with averages of 17.0 points, 7.0 assists and 4.0 rebounds per-game. Tallied 16 points, seven assists and six rebounds in a road win at Post and contributed 18 points and seven helpers versus Concordia.
December 21
Co-Players of the Week: Kyle White, Goldey-Beacom (Sr., G, 5-10, Georgetown, DE) and Russell Frederick, Philadelphia (Sr., G, 6-1, Baltimore, MD) - White tallied 28 points, 10 rebounds and five assists in a road victory at Millersville. Shot 9-for-17 from the field and added a pair of steals in 40 minutes of action. Frederick led the Rams to a home victory over The College of Saint Rose with 29 points, seven rebounds and three steals. Shot 7-for-15 from the field, 4-for-8 from long range and 11-for-14 from the free-throw line.
Rookie of the Week: Larry Grant, Post (Fr., G, 6-2, White Plains, NY) - Helped lead Post to a victory over #21 Stonehill with 22 points, three rebounds and two steals. He shot 6-for-9 from the field, 2-for-3 from long range and 8-for-10 from the free-throw line.
January 4
Player of the Week: Gage Daye, Bloomfield (Jr., G, 6-2, Newark, NJ) - Registered averages of 31.3 points, 5.6 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.66 steals per-game in a 2-1 week. He exploded for 35 points, seven rebounds and five steals against Adelphi and added 32 points, six rebounds and five assists in a win over American International. He shot 50-percent (30-for-60) from the field for the week and 39-percent (7-for-18) from long range.
Rookie of the Week: Trevon Hamlet, Post (Fr., F, 6-6, Brooklyn, NY) - Averaged 20.5 points, 7.25 rebounds and 1.75 blocks per-game in four contests. Posted 24 points and 12 rebounds against Saint Anselm and recorded 20 points on 10-for-12 shooting against AIC.
January 11
Co-Players of the Week: Gage Daye, Bloomfield (Jr., G, 6-2, Newark, NJ) and Kyle White, Goldey-Beacom (Sr., G, 5-10, Georgetown, DE) - Daye averaged 30.0 points, 7.5 assists and 5.5 rebounds per-game in a 2-0 week. Shot 50-percent (20-40) from the field. Posted 34 points (11-19 FG), seven assists and four rebounds in a 99-90 win over Chestnut Hill and registered 26 points, eight assists and seven rebounds at Dominican. White tossed in 24.7 points, 6.0 rebounds and 5.7 assists per-game in a 2-1 week. Shot 57.1-percent (28-49) from the field for the week, and 92.9-percent (13-14) from the free-throw line. Recorded 30 points, seven rebounds and six assists in a win over Concordia and added 24 points, six rebounds and five assists in a tough 76-74 setback to #6 Kutztown.
Rookie of the Week: Areglix Gil, Concordia (Fr., F, 6-5, Brooklyn, NY) - Averaged a double-double for the week with 14.3 points and 10.7 rebounds per-contest, along with 3.7 assists. He exploded for 19 points and 17 rebounds at Goldey-Beacom and added 14 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists at Nyack. Gil becomes the first Concordia men's or women's basketball player to earn a CACC Weekly Award. The Clippers are in their first season as a member of the CACC.
January 19
Player of the Week: Antonio Sherrod, Wilmington (Sr., F, 6-4, Glen Burnie, MD) - Led Wilmington to a 74- 63 victory over UMass-Lowell with 25 points and 10 rebounds. Shot 9-for-14 from the field and 7-for-8 from the free-throw line, while adding one steal in 31 minutes of action.
Rookie of the Week: Nyheem Sanders, Post (Fr., G, 6-2, Pawtucket, RI) - Tallied 19 points, three rebounds, three assists and one steal against Franklin Pierce. Shot 6-for-15 from the field, 5-for-6 from the free-throw line and did not commit a turnover in 36 minutes of action.
January 25
Player of the Week: Russell Frederick, Philadelphia (Sr., G, 6-1, Baltimore, MD) - Averaged 27.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.5 steals per-game in a 2-0 week. Shot 55-percent (17-for-31) from the field and an impressive 53-percent (10-for-19) from the three-point arc. Posted 31 points, five assists and four steals in a victory over Holy Family and added 24 points, six rebounds and four assists at Dominican.
Rookie of the Week: William Kernan, USP (Fr., G, 6-4, Medford, NJ) - Filled the box score last week with averages of 15.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 3.5 steals per-game in a 1-1 week. Nearly notched a triple-double against Chestnut Hill with nine points, 11 rebounds and eight assists. He added 21 points and four assists at Felician.
February 1
Player of the Week: Justin Swidowski, Holy Family (So., F, 6-9, Cinnaminson, NJ) - Posted 29.0 points and 8.0 rebounds per-game while shooting 64.3-percent (18-28) from the field and 91.7-percent (22-24) from the free-throw line in a 1-1 week, including the team's first win of the season. Poured in 35 points and 10 rebouonds in a 78-76 victory over Caldwell and blocked a game-winning shot attempt at the buzzer. He also notched 23 points, six rebounds and shot 10-for-15 from the field at Goldey-Beacom.
Co-Rookies of the Week: Trevon Hamlet, Post (Fr., F, 6-6, Brooklyn, NY) and Areglix Gil, Concordia (Fr., F, 6-5, Brooklyn, NY) - Hamlet averaged 18.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per-game while shooting 48.4-percent (15-31) from the field in a 1-1 week. Collected 20 points, six rebounds and two blocks against Bloomfield and followed with 16 points and five boards in a win over Felician. Gil scored at a 16.5 per-game clip while shooting 58.3-percent (14-24) from the floor and pulling down 5.0 rebounds per-contest. In a victory over Dominican, he shot 10-for-18 from the field en route to a 21-point, eight-rebound performance.
February 8
Player of the Week: William Eason, Concordia (Jr., F, 6-7, Springfield, MA) - Averaged 24.0 points, 17.0 rebounds, 2.5 blocks and 1.5 steals per-game in a 1-1 week. Made good on 48.6-percent (18-37) of his shots from the field and shot 75.0-percent (12-16) from the charity stripe. Recorded career-high totals of 27 points and 21 rebounds in a win against Nyack, out-rebounding the Warriors by himself (21-20).
Rookie of the Week: Areglix Gil, Concordia (Fr., F, 6-5, Brooklyn, NY) - Posted two double-doubles last week and averaged 16.0 points, 11.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists per-game. In a win over Nyack, registered 19 points, 13 rebounds and four assists while shooting 8-for-15 from the field. He shot 60.9-percent (14-for-23) from the field for the week.
February 15
Player of the Week: Malcolm Ingram, Philadelphia (Sr., F, 6-4, Philadelphia, PA) - Led the Rams to a 3-0 week by averaging 21.0 points, 8.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists per-game while shooting 61.5-percent (24-39) from the field. Tallied at least 20 points in all three games, including 22 points, nine rebounds and five assists in a huge win over Bloomfield.
Rookie of the Week: Leon Porter, Dominican (Fr., G, 5-6, Laurel, MD) - Poured in 24.0 points per-game in two contests and added 5.0 assists and 3.5 rebounds per-game. He shot 45.2-percent (14-31) from the field and 53.8-percent (7-13) from long range. Posted 24 points in both games, adding seven assists and six rebounds against Felician.
February 22
Player of the Week: Gage Daye, Bloomfield (So., G, 6-2, Newark, NJ) - Averaged 31.0 points per-game in two victories, including a 41-point outburst against Post on Wednesday. Pulled down 10.5 rebounds per-game and added 5.50 assists and 2.50 steals. Shot 55.6-percent (25-45) from the field, including a 17-29 performance against Post. He finished the week with 21 points, eight rebounds and four assists in 26 minutes against USP.
Rookie of the Week: Jim Connolly, Philadelphia (Fr., G, 6-3, Harleysville, PA) - Tallied the game-winning three-pointer at the buzzer to give Philadelphia a 70-67 win at Post, which was head coach Herb Magee's 902nd career victory. The victory tied Magee with Bobby Knight for the most all-time NCAA wins. Connolly averaged 17.5 ppg for the week. He recorded 14 points over the final 3:07 against Post, including a 4-point play. He shot 9-for-20 (.450) from long range for the week.
March 2
Player of the Week: Spencer Smith, Post (Jr., G, 6-1, White Plains, NY) - Led Post to a 3-0 week with averages of 24.0 points, 4.3 rebounds and 4.0 steals per-game while shooting 53.4-percent from the field. Netted 28 points and added five rebounds and five steals at USP.
Rookie of the Week: Trevon Hamlet, Post (Fr., F, 6-6, Brookly, NY) - Averaged 20.0 points, 8.7 rebounds and 2.7 blocks per-game in a 3-0 week. Ahot 52.0-percent from the field and dropped in 27 points, along with seven rebounds and three blocks, at USP.
March 8
Player of the Week: Devon Young, Felician (Jr., G/F, 6-3, Monmouth Junction, NJ) - Led Felician to the CACC Tournament Championship by averaging 26.7 points and 7.3 rebounds per-game while shooting 55-percent from the floor. Erupted for a school-record 39 points in a semi-final win over top overall seed Philadelphia. He added 23 points on 9-for-10 shooting in the championship game victory over Goldey-Beacom.
Rookie of the Week: Trevon Hamlet, Post (Fr., F, 6-6, Brookly, NY) - Tallied 24 points, seven rebounds and eight blocks in a CACC Tournament quarter-final loss at Bloomfield. The eight blocks set a new CACC Tournament record. He shot 11-24 from the field.
