NEW HAVEN, CT - The NCAA Division II men's and women's basketball committees released the first set of regional rankings for the 2009-10 season today. Three men's teams from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) are ranked in the East Region, along with one women's team.
On the men's side, the three CACC schools to be ranked are Bloomfield College (7th), Philadelphia University (8th) and Felician College (10th). Holy Family University represents the CACC women's teams with a No. 2 ranking.
The Deacons are currently the only CACC men's team to sport an undefeated conference record (7-0) through Tuesday's contests. Bloomfield is 13-3 overall and 2-1 against the 10 teams ranked in this week's poll. The Deacons have defeated No. 6 Saint Anselm and Felician, and fell to No. 4 Adelphi. BC defeated both Saint Anselm and Felician by identical 77-73 scores. Bloomfield has won six straight games since the setback to Adelphi.
Philadelphia, which is riding a five-game win streak, is tied atop the CACC South Division standings with a 6-1 conference mark and is 14-6 overall. The Rams are 2-1 against the other teams in the poll, including wins over No. 3 Merrimack and Felician. Philadelphia suffered a loss to No. 2 Stonehill.
Felician, which is under the direction of first-year head coach, David DeFerrari, is in second place in the CACC North Division with a 6-2 record, along with a 13-4 overall mark. The 13-4 mark is the best start in program history. This is believed to be the first time Felician has been ranked in a NCAA regional men's basketball poll.
The Holy Family women stand second in the East Region with a 15-1 overall record and a perfect 8-0 mark in CACC action. After a season-opening loss on the road to Bentley (No. 4 in this week's poll), the Tigers have reeled off 15 consecutive wins, including a 60-52 road win over No. 5 C.W. Post. Holy Family, which is guided by first-year head coach Mark Miller, recently tied a NCAA Division II record by winning their 92nd straight regular-season conference game. The squad will look to break that record Thursday night at CACC foe Goldey-Beacom College.
