GOLDEY-BEACOM MBB TEAM PARTICIPATES IN MULTIPLE COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT PROJECTS

PIKE CREEK, Del. - The Goldey-Beacom basketball team gave back to the community by helping make the Leukemia & Lymphoma Walk on Sept. 25 a success. The team helped transport much of the needed materials to set up for the walk, and then, once at the location, put some of the tents together to prepare for the walk.

Being a part of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Walk was a great chance for the basketball team to become involved in something really important that helps save the lives of many patients throughout our nation.

The team also went to a local Boys and Girls Club on Oct. 7 and mentored young children while letting them experience what it was like to be a college athlete for a few hours. The Lightning showed the children some drills that GBC utilizes during daily practices. The team connected with the kids through basketball and was also able to convey the message that hard work pays off on and off the court.

After talking with the kids and doing drills, some of the kids wanted to challenge the team in a friendly full court game, so they played against each other towards the end of the day. It was a fun game, and everyone enjoyed the experience.

Additionally, along with the generosity of the athletics department, the men's basketball team also helped a foster child during the holidays this year.  As a part of the Western Family YMCA's pre-school program, the department donated two basketballs (one signed by the team), Lightning men's basketball gear, and a GBC Athletics drawstring bag.
