RUTHERFORD, N.J. – First-year Felician College men’s
basketball coach David DeFerrari has completed his 2009-10 coaching
staff, naming Ivan Lewis of Passaic and Brandon Smith of East
Orange as assistants.
Lewis was re-hired by DeFerrari, and tapped as the lead assistant,
after serving on the Felician staff last season. Prior to joining
the Golden Falcons, he served three years as the top assistant at
Elmwood Park Memorial High School. Lewis is a cum laude graduate of
Felician, earning a BA in marketing/management in 2004. He became
the all-time leading scorer at Tompkins Cortland Community College
before starting for two years at shooting guard for the Golden
Falcons.
Smith enters his first collegiate coaching position. He comes to
Felician after four years as the assistant varsity coach at East
Orange High School, his alma mater. Smith began his collegiate
playing career at SUNY-Cobleskill, then transferred to Caldwell
College, where he was a two-year letterwinner at guard. He received
a BA in communication arts from Caldwell in 2005, and is an
attendance officer in the East Orange school district.
Felician, an NCAA Division II member, plays in the Central
Atlantic Collegiate Conference. The Golden Falcons reached the
semifinals of the CACC Tournament in 2008-09 and posted a won-lost
record of 16-13.
