RUTHERFORD, N.J. - David DeFerrari of Secaucus has been named the head men's basketball coach and recreation/game operations coordinator at Felician College, director of athletics Ben DiNallo Jr. announced today. DeFerrari becomes the sixth coach in program history.
DeFerrari has spent the last seven seasons as an assistant at Caldwell College, a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference rival of Felician. During his tenure, the Cougars reached the CACC semifinals four times, including a conference championship and an NCAA Tournament berth in 2007. DeFerrari was also the fitness center manager at Caldwell.
Prior to Caldwell, DeFerrari served two years as the head coach of John Jay College in New York City. He has previous collegiate experience as an assistant at Rutgers University-Newark (1991-97) and the head coach of Clinton Community College in Plattsburgh, N.Y. (1989-91).
"We are very excited to have Dave come on our staff," DiNallo said. "I am confident he will do an outstanding job both as our men's basketball coach and our recreation/game operations coordinator."
DeFerrari played collegiately at Green Mountain College in Poultney, Vt., from which he graduated magna cum laude with a BS in recreation and leisure studies in 1986. He is a member of Green Mountain's Athletic Hall of Fame. He earned an MA in physical education from Montclair State University in 1996. At Felician, he replaces Del G. Harrison, who was 51-61 in four years.
"I'm very thankful and excited about the opportunity that Felician College has given me," DeFerrari said. "The team has a steady nucleus of returning players and a good influx of new players. I look forward to working with them both on the court as players and off the court as students."
Felician College is a member of NCAA Division II. The Golden Falcons posted a won-lost record of 16-13 in 2008-09 and reached the semifinals of the CACC Tournament.
