ADEFEMI AND JETER HONORED BY PHILADELPHIA AREA SMALL COLLEGE COACHES ASSOCIATION
NEW HAVEN, CT - Chestnut Hill College's Larz Jeter and University of the Sciences in Philadelphia's Adewale Adefemi were two of seven men's basketball players honored as the Sam Cozen Small College Players of the Week by the Philadelphia Area Small College Coaches Association at their luncheon Tuesday at USP.
Now in its 23rd season, the Philadelphia Area Small College Coaches Association honors area small college basketball players at their bi-weekly luncheons, not only for the performance on the court, but for their leadership and their academic success, ideals emphasized by the late Sam Cozen, longtime coach at Drexel University and for whom the award is named.
Adefemi has started all 14 games for the Devils this season and is the team's leading scorer and rebounder, averaging 14.9 points and 8.4 rebounds per game. He is second on the team in assists with 25, steals with 14 and blocked shots with eight, while connecting on 44.3% of his shots from the field.
The junior forward has been named to the CACC honor roll twice this season in consecutive weeks (1/11 and 1/18), posting averages of 14.2 points and 8.0 rebounds per game over the four games during the two-week period.
The former Winslow Township High School athlete is in his third season as a member of the USP men's basketball team. In 65 games for the Devils, Adewale has scored 808 points and pulled down 484 rebounds, 196 of them off the offensive glass. His 196 offensive rebounds rank ninth on the Devils all-time list. Adefemi is a Pharmaceutical Marketing/Management major at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia and has a grade point average of 3.42.
Since transferring from Gwynedd-Mercy College in 2007, Jeter has always served the Chestnut Hill College men's basketball program as a dedicated and responsible individual. Jeter is a tireless worker who always looks for ways to improve his game. In his first two seasons as a Griffin, Jeter established himself as a significant contributor to the Griffins' aggressive defense. Jeter led the team in blocks (18) and finished second in steals (43) while averaging 8.3 points-per-game and 5.0 rebounds-per-game in his first year at Chestnut Hill. Last season, Jeter served as the Griffins' top defensive reserve. He often covered the opponent's top offensive threat, helping the Griffins to an appearance in the CACC Tournament at the conclusion of the season.
This year, Jeter has joined senior guard Julian McFadden as the team's co-captains. He has been the Griffins' Most Valuable Player to this point, showing significant improvement offensively with 12.3 PPG in addition to his usual stalwart defense. Jeter is third on the team in rebounds (4.6 RPG) and first in steals (27, 10th in the CACC). He is the third-leading scorer for the Griffins and ranks 20th in the CACC. He has done so efficiently, ranking 15th in the conference in field-goal percentage (50.3%, 77-of-153). Jeter attributes his recent offensive progress to hard work and the experience he gained playing in Italy last summer on the USA Athletes International European Slam Tour. He is a currently working on a master's degree in human services at Chestnut Hill College and aspires to travel to Africa after graduation to help the "Shooting Touch" program improve the lives and education of the continent's youth.
