NEW HAVEN, CT - Caldwell College and Philadelphia University have been selected to win their respective divisions according to the 2007 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men's Basketball Preseason Coaches' Poll, which was released today. Caldwell was picked to win the North Division with seven first-place votes and 67 total points, while Philadelphia also picked up seven first-place tallies and 66 points to top the South Division poll. The conference's 12 head coaches conducted the voting. The CACC has split into two, six-member divisions for the first time in 2007-08.

Caldwell won the CACC Tournament Championship last year after entering the event as the No. 5 seed. The Cougars were the eighth seed at the NCAA Northeast Region Tournament and put quite a scare into the top seed and No. 2-nationally-ranked Bentley College, before falling 59-56. Caldwell finished the season with a 19-12 record and an 11-9 mark in the CACC. The Cougars return four starters from that squad. The leading-returning scorer for Caldwell is 6-6 senior forward B.J. Suchy, who ranked 16th in the CACC with 13.6 points per-game last year. Suchy was named to the All-CACC third team last year.

Post was tabbed second in the North Division and was voted first on four polls. The Eagles tied for the CACC regular-season championship last year with a 14-6 record to go with a 17-12 overall mark. Post advanced to the CACC Tournament semifinals before falling to USP, 62-55. Post returns four of its top five scorers from a year ago, including third team All-CACC pick, 6-2 senior guard Arthur Robertson. Robertson led the Eagles with 13.1 ppg last year and ranked sixth in the CACC with 7.0 rebounds per-game.

Bloomfield received one first-place vote and was third in the North Division with 37 points. Nyack was fourth with 33 points, and the division concluded with Dominican in fifth with 31 points and Felician in sixth with 22 points.

Philadelphia topped the South Division poll after tying for the CACC regular-season championship last year with a 14-6 record. The Rams were 20-10 overall. The Rams fell to Caldwell in the CACC Tournament semifinals, 73-64, before earning the No. 5 seed at the NCAA Regionals, where they were upended by No. 4 Bridgeport, 67-65. The Rams return three starters, including 6-4 senior forward Jason Hickenbottom, who averaged 16.5 ppg last year to rank seventh in the conference. Hickenbottom was a second team All-CACC selection last year.

Holy Family received four first-place tallies to finish right behind Philadelphia with 63 points. The Tigers tied Philadelphia and Post atop the CACC regular-season standings last year with a 14-6 record. The top returning scorer for the Tigers is 6-4 senior guard, Ryan Lancaster. Lancaster was a second team All-CACC pick and averaged 15.3 ppg to rank ninth in the conference last year.

Goldey-Beacom was voted first by one coach and picked up 50 points to finish third in the voting for the South Division. The Lightning were followed by USP (32), Wilmington (28) and CACC newcomer, Chestnut Hill College (13) in the poll.

The season kicks off as Philadelphia travels to Buena Vista, FL, to take part in the Disney Tip-Off Classic this weekend. The Rams will face Assumption College on Friday, Nov. 9, Winona State on Saturday, Nov. 10 and North Alabama on Sunday, Nov. 11.

The conference season starts with four games on Saturday, December 1. Holy Family will travel to USP, Philadelphia will host Wilmington at the Palestra, Bloomfield visits Dominican and Post plays host to Nyack.
