WATERBURY, CT - Post University men's basketball Head Coach Mike Donnelly has announced the addition of Garvin McAlister to the roster. McAlister will join the men's basketball program as a freshman for the 2007-08 season.

McAlister is a 5-foot-11 guard from Norwich Free Academy in Norwich, Conn. This past season, he was named Player of the Year by both the Norwich Bulletin and the New London Day.

"Garvin is a great recruit for our program," Donnelly stated. "He comes from an excellent high school program and he is used to playing at a very competitive and intense level."

The Norwich native averaged 13.8 points per game while helping NFA to a 23-1 overall record this past season. He also dished out 7.0 assists per contest and averaged 4.3 rebounds a game. He also had 104 steals in his senior season.

From three-point range, McAlister connected on 115 treys for his career, including 43 during his senior season.

"Garvin is a talented player with great upside," Donnelly added. "He will be a good fit for our basketball program and for the University as well. I'm looking forward to working with him in the fall."

McAlister was a four-year starter for Head Coach Neal Curland at NFA, and helped the team capture the Eastern Connecticut Conference (ECC) Regular Season and Post Season Championships this past year.

He was named the Most Valuable Player in the ECC Tournament and at the Manchester Holiday Classic.

Post is coming off a 17-12 overall record in 2006-07, and a 14-6 mark in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC). The Eagles also captured a share of the CACC Regular Season Championship and Donnelly was named the CACC Coach of the Year.

The Eagles are slated to open the 2007-08 season on Thursday, Nov. 15 at Merrimack College.
