FREDERICK CLAIMS MEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK ACCOLADES

NEW HAVEN, CT - Russell Frederick, a sophomore point guard at Philadelphia University, has claimed Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men's Basketball Player of the Week accolades for the week ending Sunday, Dec. 2. Devon Young of Felician College was named Rookie of the Week for the second consecutive week.

Frederick, a 6-1 point guard from Philadelphia, PA, led the Rams to a 2-0 week with averages of 16.5 points, 8.5 assists, 5.0 rebounds and 3.0 steals per-game. He shot 52.4-percent (11-for-21) from the field for the week. He registered 19 points, eight assists, five rebounds and four steals in a conference-opening win over Wilmington.

Young, a 6-3 freshman forward from Monmouth Junction, NJ, posted 21 points, three rebounds and two steals in his only action of the week against St. Thomas Aquinas. He hit 7-of-16 shots from the field, 2-of-4 from 3-point range and went 5-for-6 from the free-throw line.

Honorable Mention

Charles Smith, Bloomfield (Jr., F, 6-7, Newark, NJ) - Posted two double-doubles last week. Averaged 14.5 ppg and 14.0 rpg for the week.

Arthur Robertson, Post (Sr., F, 6-1, Far Rockaway, NY) - Tallied 25 points and six rebounds in a CACC win at Nyack.

Michael Sturns, Holy Family (Sr., G, 6-5, Fort Worth, TX) - Averaged 23.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists in a 1-1 week for the Tigers.

Julian McFadden, Chestnut Hill (So., G, 5-10, Philadelphia, PA) - Poured in 26 points along with four rebounds and two steals against Arcadia.

CACC Notes

Caldwell - The Cougars lost a pair of games at the OrthoCarolina Classic in Wingate, N.C., this past weekend, falling to Wingate 69-64 on Friday and Fayetteville State 74-64 on Saturday. Senior forward B.J.Suchy scored a career-high 26 points on 10-of-15 shooting from the field against Fayetteville State. He now has 936 career points to rank 16th on Caldwell's all-time scoring list.

Felician: Through six games, Felician has more assists than turnovers as a team (118/93). Senior guard Jason Romer is leading the team in field-goal percentage (.516) despite more than half his attempts coming from three-point range.

Holy Family - Holy Family is 4-2 overall and 0-1 in the CACC after a 1-1 week. The Tigers opened the week with an 88-67 victory over visiting Lincoln (Pa.) on Nov. 27. Guard Michael Sturns was 12 of 23 shooting and finished with a game-high 28 points. He also had six rebounds, five assists and three steals. Guard Ryan Lancaster had 26 points. Guard Ceazer Johnson came off-the-bench and had a double-double with 15 points and 10 boards. On December 1, Holy Family lost its conference opener to the University of the Sciences, 56-51. Again, Sturns led the Tigers offense with 18 points. Lancaster also reached double-figures with 11 points. This season, Sturns has led the Tigers in scoring in five of the six games. He is averaging 26.2 points per game. Forward London Houston has at least one block and one steal in every game. Houston has 24 blocks, 22 steals and is averaging 8.5 rebounds. This week, Holy Family hosts CACC opponent Philadelphia University on December 3 and visits West Chester on December 6.

Philadelphia - Coach Herb Magee's team continues its conference slate on Monday night, December 3rd at cross-town rival Holy Family University at 8:00 p.m., following Tom Shirley's women's basketball team's game vs. the Tigers which tips-off the doubleheader at 6:00 p.m. in Northeast Philadelphia. Then at the Gallagher Center, the men host Cheyney University for a non-conference encounter on Wednesday, December 5th at 7:00 p.m. before closing the week at home on Saturday, December 8th in a conference game against Nyack College at 2:30 p.m.

Post - Playing its first game in 11 days the Eagles defeated Nyack 76-60, last Saturday. Arthur Robertson recorded a season-high 25 points on 8-of-14 shooting. Junior Jesse Iyalekhue also recorded a season-high with 19 points on 9-of-12 shooting. Post recorded a season-best 30 field goals, while dishing out 19 assists. Post returns to the hardwood for a pair of games in the Drubner Center this week, including a non-conference tilt on Thursday evening, while USP comes to town for a conference clash on Saturday afternoon.

USP - With a win on Saturday against Holy Family University, the Devils have now defeated the Tigers in five of the last seven meetings; including two first-round playoff wins. Adewale Adefemi's 14 rebounds are the most by a USP player in a game since January 13, 2004 when Chris Brattelli had 14 at Goldey Beacom. The win over Kutztown, coupled with the opening game win over West Chester marks the first time that the Devils have beaten two PSAC teams in the same season since the 2002-03 season when they recorded wins against Cheyney University and Kutztown.
