NEW HAVEN, CT - Manny Perez of Caldwell College has been named Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending Sunday, January 6. Trenton Davidheiser of Chestnut Hill College was the choice for Rookie of the Week after leading the Griffins to their first-ever CACC victory last weekend.

Perez, a 6-7 junior forward from Egg Harbor Township, NJ, helped Caldwell to a 2-1 week with outstanding shooting performances. He shot 54.8-percent (17-for-31) from the field and 96.3-percent (26-for-27) from the free-throw line for the week. He averaged 20.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per-game. He registered 25 points and three blocks in a CACC win over Wilmington and converted all 17 of his free-throw attempts in a loss to Bridgeport. His performance at the free-throw line against Bridgeport set a new conference single-game record.

Davidheiser, a 6-4 freshman forward from Pottstown, PA, helped Chestnut Hill to its first-ever CACC and Division-II victory with 26 points and eight rebounds against Dominican. The Griffins won the game, 84-83, in overtime. For the week, he averaged 19.0 points, 11.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists per-game in two contests.

Honorable Mention

Michael Sturns, Holy Family (Sr., G, 6-5, Fort Worth, TX) - Tallied 19 points, eight rebounds and six assists in a 91-66 win over Bloomfield.

Peter Lawal, Post (Sr., F, 6-5, Uniondale, NY) - Posted 16 points, six rebounds and two assists in a win at Goldey-Beacom.

Devon Young, Felician (Fr., F, 6-3, Monmouth Junc., NJ) - Recorded 18 points, three rebounds and three steals in a win at USP.

Brandon Brock, Dominican (Jr., G, Newburgh, NY) - In three games, averaged 15.3 points, 5.3 assists, 3.7 rebounds and 2.0 steals per-game.

CACC Notes

Caldwell - The Cougars ended their seven-game losing streak with a 69-67 win over Queens at the Dominican Tournament Jan. 3. Senior guard Michael Wise made the game-winning free throws with nine seconds left to snap the team's longest losing skid since the 2003-04 season. Success at the free throw line has helped Caldwell turn things around. The Cougars made 25-of-25 from the line against Bridgeport on Jan. 2, including 17-of-17 from junior forward Manny Perez. In the two wins last week, the Cougars made 77.3 percent against Queens and 84.4 percent versus Wilmington Jan. 5. For the week, Caldwell hit 69-of-79 (87.3 percent) from the line.

Chestnut Hill - Chestnut Hill earned its first-ever CACC and Division II victory with a home triumph over Dominican College on Saturday, January 5. The Griffins won an overtime thriller, 84-83.

Felician - Felician recorded season highs for shooting (.556, 30-53) and three-point shooting (.455, 10-22) in its 78-50 win at USP on Saturday, its last of five consecutive road games. The Golden Falcons also yielded a season low point total. At 3-5, Felician matched its total of road victories for 2006-07 (3-12). Senior guard Derrell Thomas is shooting .694 (25-36) on two-point field goal attempts this season.

Holy Family - Holy Family jumped out to a 32-point first half lead on the way to a 91-66 win over visiting Bloomfield in a CACC cross-over game on Saturday. Michael Sturns hit a jumper in the first minute that gave him his 1,000th career point. He became the 18th player to accomplish the feat in a Holy Family uniform. Guard Ceazer Johnson led the way with 21 points and six rebounds off-the-bench. Guard Ryan Lancaster had 20 points and eight rebounds. Sturns finished with 19 points, eight rebounds, six assists and two steals. Sturns and Lancaster are one-two in scoring in the CACC. Sturns is averaging 25.1 ppg, while Lancaster is dropping in 18.0 ppg. Forward London Houston is second in the conference with 9.0 rpg. He is also the CACC leader with 40 steals.

Post - Post began 2008 with a 76-64 win over Goldey-Beacom on the road last Saturday afternoon. Post had four scorers in double figures led by senior Peter Lawal with 16 points. It was the eighth game this season that the senior has netted double-digits. Senior Arthur Robertson recorded his third double-double of the season with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Junior Omar Robinson recorded his 300th collegiate point with 14 points. Junior AJ Reitter added 11 points, while freshman Garvin McAlister had a career-high seven assists, including six in the second half.

USP - In the most recent NCAA statistics report, the Devils ranked 43rd nationally as a team in field goal percentage defense (40%), 39th in rebound margin (+7.0) and 28th in fewest personal fouls committed (15.8). Freshman Adewale Adefemi is ranked 39th in rebounding (9.2) while junior Brendan Rutledge is also ranked 39th in blocked shots (2.0).
