NEW HAVEN, CT - Bloomfield College junior Omari Knox has garnered Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men's Basketball Player of the Week accolades for games between December 17th and January 1. Devon Young of Felician College claimed Rookie of the Week honors for the third time this season.

Knox, a 6-2 junior guard from Brooklyn, NY, averaged 22.0 points and 12.5 rebounds per-game in a 1-1 week for the Deacons. He netted two free- throws with 15 seconds left to give Bloomfield a 67-66 victory over Pace on Dec. 28. He finished that game with 19 points and 14 rebounds. He also registered 25 points and 11 boards against Merrimack. This is the second time that Knox has claimed Player of the Week honors this season.


Young, a 6-3 freshman guard from Monmouth Junction, NJ, helped Felician to a 2-1 record over the holidays with averages of 16.7 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.3 steals per-game. He shot 47.6-percent (20-for-42) from the field. He capped the week by scoring the game-winning field-goal with under a second left on the clock at Southern Connecticut State.

Honorable Mention

Michael Sturns, Holy Family (Sr., G, 6-5, Fort Worth, TX) - Averaged 33.0 points and 3.5 steals per-game in two losses.

Antonio Sherrod, Wilmington (So., F, 6-4, Glen Burnie, MD) - In two games, averaged 23.9 points and 9.0 rebounds per-game.

CACC Notes

Caldwell - Senior forward B.J. Suchy became the 14th men's basketball player at Caldwell to reach the 1,000-point mark for his career in a 20-point performance against Southern New Hampshire on Dec. 22. The milestone was achieved on a lay-up late in the second half. Junior forward Manny Perez was named to the all-tournament team at the Pace Tournament last weekend after leading the Cougars with 16 points and eight rebounds in an overtime loss to Pace on Dec. 29. Perez, who returned to the lineup on Dec. 15 after missing all but two games last year due to injury, has moved into 10th place on Caldwell's all-time scoring list with 1,082 career points.

Holy Family - The Holy Family men's basketball team lost a pair of non-conference games in the last two weeks. The Tigers fell to The College of Saint Rose, 75-73, on December 22. Guard Ryan Lancaster led the way for the Tigers with 31 points. Guard Michael Sturns tied his career-high in points with 30. On December 30, Holy Family lost to American International, 84-80. Sturns set a new career-high in scoring with 36 points. He is just two points away from reaching the 1,000 career point plateau. In the first NCAA Statistics Report, Sturns was fifth in Division II in scoring. Currently, he averages 25.6 ppg. Holy Family is now 6-5 overall. The Tigers restart conference play on Saturday against Bloomfield at 3 p.m.
