NEW HAVEN, CT - Omari Knox of Bloomfield College has been tabbed the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending Sunday, March 2. Kevin Whaley of Chestnut Hill College was the choice for Rookie of the Week.

Knox, a 6-2 junior guard from Brooklyn, NY, led Bloomfield to two huge victories last week. Needing a victory to have a chance to qualify for the CACC Tournament, Knox led the Deacons to a victory over Felician in the regular-season finale, clinching the No. 4 seed in the North Division. Then, Knox helped Bloomfield to a double-overtime upset over the North's top-seed, Post University, in the first round of the CACC Tournament. For the week, he averaged 27.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists per-game. He netted 28 points and 12 rebounds against Post.

Whaley, a 6-4 freshman guard from York, PA, poured in 32 points to lead Chestnut Hill to a 80-75 win over Wilmington in the regular-season finale for both teams. He shot 12-for-19 from the field and 7-for-11 from 3-point range. His seven triples tie three other players for the most in a single game in the CACC this season. Whaley added six rebounds, three blocks and one steal in the game.

Honorable Mention

Michael Sturns, Holy Family (Sr., G, 6-5, Forth Worth, TX) - Recorded 31 points, nine rebounds and five assists in a tournament victory over GBC.

Derek Savage, Goldey-Beacom (Sr., F/G, 6-4, Lincoln, DE) - Averaged 20.0 points, 10.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists per-game in two contests.

Roahn Sheppard, Bloomfield (Fr., F, 6-5, Brooklyn, NY) - Averaged 19.0 points, 8.5 rebounds and 4.0 blocks per-game in two victories.

Marcus Lemon, Philadelphia (So., G, 6-5, Alexandria, VA) - Averaged 13.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists while shooting 55.6% from the field.

CACC Notes

Bloomfield - Bloomfield has now won 10 consecutive CACC Tournament games dating back to 2004 after a 90-85, double-overtime thriller at Post University on Saturday. Blomfield is the No. 4 seed in the North Division and Post was the top seed in the North. Nnamdi Ahaneku pulled down a CACC-Tournament record 20 rebounds against the Eagles.

Caldwell - The Cougars defeated Dominican College, 79-65 in the quarterfinals of the CACC Tournament to advance to the semifinals for the third time in four years. Junior forward Manny Perez led all scorers with 20 points on 7-of-8 shooting from the floor. Caldwell earned the right to host the quarterfinal match-up by edging Nyack College, 54-53 in the regular-season finale on Feb. 27. Junior guard Carl Augustin's lay-up with six seconds remaining proved to be the difference, as the Cougars clinched second place in the CACC North with the win. Sophomore guard Eddie Crockett tallied a team-best 11 points to pace Caldwell. The Cougars, who are 8-4 at home this season, will host Holy Family in the semifinals on Wednesday, Mar. 5.

Felician - Senior guard Derrell Thomas ended his career with a personal-high 11 assist, zero-turnover performance in a loss at Bloomfield on Wednesday.

Holy Family - Holy Family advanced to the semifinals of the CACC Championship Tournament by defeating Goldey-Beacom in the quarterfinal round, 73-71. Guard Michael Sturns led everyone with 31 points. He also knocked the ball away from a Lightning player to prevent a potential game-winning 3-pointer as time expired. Guard Ceazer Johnson (12), forward London Houston (11) and guard Ryan Lancaster (10) were also in double-figure scoring for the Tigers. Holy Family is now 20-8 overall and seventh in the NCAA Northeast Regional Rankings. Sturns is leading Division II with 26.9 points per game. The Tigers will visit Caldwell on Wednesday, March 5 in a semifinal at 7 p.m. Holy Family defeated Caldwell during the regular season, 66-55, in Philadelphia.

Philadelphia - The Rams completed the first unbeaten regular season in the CACC's NCAA history with their 16th league win of the year at Goldey-Beacom last Wed., Feb. 27. Philadelphia has won 14 of its past 15 games overall. With the Rams' 20th win of the season in the CACC quarterfinal victory over USP, Head Coach Herb Magee now has five consecutive 20-plus win seasons and 28 overall campaigns with 20 or more triumphs in his illustrious 41-year career at the helm of the Philadelphia men's basketball program.

USP - Senior Keith Dundas closed out his career with a 15-point effort against Philadelphia University, giving the senior 979 points in his four years at USP. In the most recent NCAA statistics report, the Devils are ranked 36th nationally in scoring defense (65.0); 58th nationally as a team in field goal percentage defense (42.0%), 32nd in rebound margin (4.9), and 31st in fewest personal fouls committed (15.8). Curtis Fitch is 74th nationally in blocked shots (1.4/gm.)
