Chestnut Hill - The Griffins picked up their third conference win of the season with an 81-73 overtime victory over Caldwell at home. Sophomore guard Julian McFadden led the way with 13.0 points per-game, 2.3 rebounds per-game and 2.0 assists per-game. Freshman forward Trenton Davidheiser nearly averaged a double-double for the week with averages of 9.7 points and 9.3 rebounds per-game.
Holy Family - The Tigers improved to 17-8 after picking up wins against Goldey-Beacom and Dominican last week. Senior guard Michael Sturns is leading Division II in scoring with 26.5 points per game. Senior center London Houston is fifth nationally in blocks per game (5.7) and 12th in rebounds per game (10.1). Holy Family is sitting seventh in the most recent NCAA Northeast Regional Rankings. This week, Holy Family holds its senior night against Chestnut Hill on Tuesday and will end the regular season at Nyack on Saturday.
Philadelphia - Men's basketball Head Coach Herb Magee' 63 and women's Head Coach/Director of Athletics Tom Shirley have now combined for 1,401 all-time wins in their careers at the collegiate level. Milestone win number 1,400 for the duo took place at home inside The Gallagher Center on Saturday as Shirley's women downed Felician College by a final score of 85-53. Magee's men then picked up their fourth straight win, also over the visiting Golden Falcons by a margin of 88-76. Between games, Philadelphia University President Stephen Spinelli, Jr., Ph.D. joined the Cheerleading squad in congratulating the two head coaches, who are currently the third-winningest men's/women's coaching tandem in the NCAA. Together, their 1,401 wins place them behind only Northern State's Don Meyer (M) and Curt Frederickson (W) and Connecticut's Jim Calhoun (M) and Geno Auriemma (W). Magee is the most decorated NCAA Division II men's coach in history; and regardless of division, he's fifth all-time, trailing only Bob Knight, Meyer, Dean Smith and Adolph Rupp. All 849 of Magee's triumphs have come in his 41 seasons at Philadelphia U. Junior guard Mike Dunn became the 46th men's player in school history to reach the 1,000-point milestone with his 16-point effort vs. Felician. The Rams have won 10 of their last 11 contests.
USP - With the win against Chestnut Hill, the Devils have now won at least 12 games in a season for the 34th consecutive year, going back to 1974-75. In the most recent NCAA statistics report, the Devils are ranked 55th nationally in scoring defense (66.1); 86th nationally as a team in field goal percentage defense (42.8%), 25th in rebound margin (5.7), and 12th in fewest personal fouls committed (15.3).
