PHILADELPHIA AND POST GARNER TOP SEEDS FOR CACC MEN'S BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT

February 28, 2008

NEW HAVEN, CT-Philadelphia University has garnered the top seed in the South Division and Post University will serve as the No. 1 seed in the North Division for the upcoming Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men's Basketball Tournament. Four teams from each division qualified for the tournament, which will begin on campus sites on Saturday, March 1. The games will be available to view at www.CACC.tv. Visit the website for further details.

Philadelphia became the first men's team to finish with an undefeated conference record in the CACC's NCAA-era with a 16-0 record this season. The Rams concluded the conference slate with a 62-58 win at Goldey-Beacom College on Wednesday night. The top-seeded Rams will host the South's No. 4 seed, University of the Sciences in Philadelphia (13-14, 7-9 CACC) in the opening round on Saturday at 2:00 pm. The Rams, who are 19-11 overall, swept the Devils in two regular-season meetings this season. The Rams won by scores of 70-53 at home on Feb. 7 and 57-52 at USP on Feb. 19. Sophomore first team All-CACC forward Malcolm Ingram led the Rams in both games, netting 22 points in the first encounter, followed by 23 in the second match-up.

USP will be led by senior guard Keith Dundas, who was a third team All-CACC selection. The Devils were the No. 6 seed for last season's CACC Tournament and advanced all the way to the championship game before falling to Caldwell College. Philadelphia lost to Caldwell in the semifinals.

Post earned the top seed in the North Division with a 10-6 CACC mark. The Eagles will welcome No. 4 Bloomfield College on Saturday at 2:00 pm. Post swept the Deacons (15-15, 6-10 CACC) in the regular-season by a score of 86-81 in overtime on January 29 at Bloomfield and 82-71 on February 13 at home. Post has won six of its last nine games and finished the regular season with a 14-13 overall record and an 8-4 record at home. Post is led by senior guard Arthur Robertson, who was named to the All-CACC first team on Tuesday. Senior forward Peter Lawal was a third team pick, while junior forward AJ Reitter earned honorable mention status. Second team All-CACC pick Omari Knox will lead the Deacons.

Post fell in the semifinals of last year's tournament, while Bloomfield did not qualify for postseason play.

Holy Family University will serve as the No. 2 seed in the South Division and will host No. 3 Goldey-Beacom College at 4:00 on Saturday. The men's game was moved to 4:00 due to the Holy Family women also hosting a first round game.

The Tigers and Lightning split their regular-season meetings, with the GBC taking the first game at home on Jan. 17, 81-77, and Holy Family getting revenge at home by a score of 87-52 on Feb. 14. The leading scorer in Division II and CACC Player of the Year, Holy Family's Michael Sturns, collected 30 points and 12 rebounds in the Tigers' victory, while junior guard Caezer Johnson added a double-double with 20 points and 11 boards. First team All-CACC forward Derek Savage led the Lightning to their victory with 18 points and 16 rebounds, while sophomore guard Adrian Miles led the squad with 21 points. Both teams took losses in the first round of last season's CACC Tournament.

Caldwell claimed the No. 2 seed in the North Division and will host No. 3 Dominican College on Saturday at 2:00 pm. Caldwell captured the second seed with a victory over Nyack College in the regular-season finale on Wednesday evening. Caldwell is the defending CACC Tournament Champion, winning last season's title, 61-60, over USP as the No. 5 seed. The Cougars are currently 11-16 overall and finished with a 9-7 record in the CACC. The team is led by second team All-CACC performer, junior forward Manny Perez. Senior forward B.J. Suchy was an honorable mention selection. Dominican junior guard Will Carty was also an honorable mention pick.

Dominican (13-14, 8-8 CACC) upended Caldwell at home, 80-77, in the first meeting between the rivals this season on Jan. 10. The Cougars rebounded to take the second match-up at home on Jan. 30 by a score of 49-45.

Game times for the semifinal round on Wednesday, March 5, are tentatively slated for 7:00 pm. The highest remaining seed in the south will host the lowest seed left in the north. The north's highest remaining seed will host the south's lowest seed still in the tournament. The two semifinal winners will vie for the championship on Saturday, March 8, at the gym of the higher seed. Game time will be at either 4:00 pm or 7:00 pm
