BLOOMFIELD VOTED AS PRE-SEASON FAVORITE IN CACC MEN'S BASKETBALL

NEW HAVEN, CT - Defending Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) men's basketball regular-season and tournament champion, Bloomfield College, is the pre-season favorite again in 2006-07 according to a poll released today. Four teams received first-place votes. The Deacons garnered five first-place nods and topped the poll with 110 points. The conference's head coaches conducted the voting.

Bloomfield went 21-10 last year, 17-5 in the CACC and defeated Dominican College in the conference tournament championship game, 70-64, for their third straight title. The Deacons return one starter in 2004-05 CACC Player of the Year and three-time All-CACC first team selection, Andre Dabney. Dabney ranked sixth in the CACC in scoring (18.9), second in assists (4.06), eighth in free-throw percentage (.792) and first in steals per-game (2.68) last year.

Philadelphia claimed three first-place votes and was second in the poll with 100 points. The Rams went 20-11 overall and 15-7 in their first season as a member of the CACC. Leading the Rams will be first team All-CACC performer, senior center Christian Burns. Burns led the CACC in blocked shots (2.18) and rebounds (9.8) last year and was eighth in scoring (16.7) and fifth in field-goal percentage (.569).

Caldwell College was picked first on two ballots and was third in the poll with 96 total points. Holy Family University was fourth with 89 points and received one first-place vote. The Cougars went 18-13 last year and 14-8 in conference play, while the Tigers went 17-14 overall and 12-10 in the CACC.

Last year's CACC Tournament runner-up, Dominican, was voted fifth with 79 points after compiling a 13-17 overall record and a 10-12 mark in the CACC. The poll is rounded out by, in order, Nyack College (64), USP (50), Post University (41), Felician College (40), Goldey-Beacom College (36) and Wilmington College (21).
