PHILADELPHIA'S MAGEE BREAKS ALL-TIME WINS RECORD IN OVERTIME

PHILADELPHIA, PA - Philadelphia University upended Wilmington College in overtime Thursday evening, 65-60, to give Ram Head Coach Herb Magee his 829th career victory, breaking the all-time wins record for Division II head men's basketball coaches. Senior center Christian Burns led the way for the Rams with 34 points and 17 rebounds.
Magee, currently in his 40th season with the Rams, entered the game tied with Clarence "Big House" Gaines for the most victories in Division II history. Magee now has a career record of 829-323.
The Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC), the youngest conference in Division II, congratulates Coach Magee for his record of longevity. All of Magee's wins have come at Philadelphia University.
The visiting Wildcats came out strong, holding 23-16 lead with 2:05 remaining in the first half, but the Rams closed the half with a 5-0 run. All five points coming from Burns as the deficit shrunk to two, 23-21, after 20 minutes of play.
In the second half, neither team could take control with the Rams claiming the largest lead of five points, 45-40, with eight minutes remaining. After Burns hit one of two free throws with 46 seconds left in regulation for a 53-51 lead, junior guard/forward Taurean Temple hit a jumper in the lane that ultimately sent the contest into overtime.
In the extra session, Burns and freshman forward Malcolm Ingram scored four points each as the Rams outscored the Wildcats, 12-7, to ensure the win. With the victory, Philadelphia improves to 16-5 overall and 11-3 in the CACC, while Wilmington falls to 0-21 overall and 0-14 in league play.
In addition to Burns, junior forward Levi Winters finished with eight points before fouling out, while freshman point guard Russell Frederick added seven points and four assists. The Wildcats were led by Temple's 22 points and 11 rebounds.
