PHILADELPHIA'S BURNS NAMED ECAC MEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE YEAR

NEW HAVEN, CT - Christian Burns of Philadelphia University has been named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Men's Basketball Player of the Year in a vote by ECAC Division II head coaches. The Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) boasted four of the five members of the All-ECAC first team, as Bloomfield's Andre Dabney, Caldwell's Jean Georges and Felician's Michael Pierrot were also first team picks. Dominican's Prince Jackson was a second team selection.
The ECAC honor is one of many that Burns has accrued for his performance in 2006-07. He was also named the Most Outstanding Player for the East team at the NABC Division II All-Star game in Springfield, MA. He was named the Daktronics Division II National Player of the Year and the Northeast Region and CACC Player of the Year. Burns, a 6-9 center from Hamilton, NJ, finished the season ranked first in the CACC in rebounding (11.2), second in scoring (21.7) and blocks (2.10), third in field-goal percentage (.550) and seventh in steals per-game (1.59).
Dabney, a senior guard from Plainfield, NJ, led the CACC with an average of 24.6 ppg. Dabney, a four-time, first team All-CACC selection and 2004-05 Conference Player of the Year also paced the conference in 3-pointers made per-game (3.48), while ranking third in free-throw percentage (.808), fourth in steals (1.93), fifth in 3-point shooting percentage (.409) and sixth in assists (3.59).
Georges, a senior guard from Vauxhal, NJ, was a first team All-CACC and All-Metropolitan pick this season. He led the Cougars in scoring at 18.0 ppg to rank fifth in the CACC. He also paced the conference in 3-point shooting, making 43.8 percent from beyond the arc. Georges was named the Most Valuable Player of the CACC Tournament after averaging 16.7 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.3 steals as the Cougars won the conference title.
Pierrot, a 6-10 senior center from Melville, NY, averaged 20.7 points, 10.4 rebounds and 2.33 blocks in 2006-07, while putting up 17 double-doubles. He finished 10th nationally among Division II players in rebounding. He was also named to the All-CACC First Team and was a second team honoree of the Met Basketball Writers Association and the Northeast Region. He is Felician's first NCAA men's all-region performer.
Jackson, a senior forward from Schenectady, NY, was a first team All-CACC and All-Met selection this season after leading the Chargers with an average of 17.6 ppg. He was second on the team in rebounding with 164 (5.9 per game). Furthermore, he was ranked sixth in the CACC in scoring, 12th in free throw percentage, third in 3-point field goal percentage and 12th in 3-point field goals made.
The ECAC's membership includes 320 colleges in NCAA Divisions I, II, and II from Maine to Georgia and Westerly to Illinois. There are 45 basketball-playing Division II schools as members.
