BURNS NAMED MOST OUTSTANDING PLAYER FOR EAST AT DIVISION II ALL-STAR GAME

March 26, 2007

SPRINGFIELD, MA - Philadelphia University senior center Christian Burns poured in a team-high 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for the East squad in a 97-92 loss in the NABC Division II All-Star game on Friday, March 23rd, in Springfield, Mass. In doing so, Burns garnered Most Outstanding Player (MOP) honors for the East team and became the second straight Rams' player to win the award, joining Tayron Thomas in 2006.

The East held a commanding 55-41 lead after 20 minutes of play before the West, behind the play of team MOP Kevin Johnson of Humboldt State, staged a comeback in the second half en route to the victory. Johnson finished the game with 18 points, 13 rebounds and four blocked shots.

Burns went 9-for-20 from the floor and blocked one shot in 22 minutes of play.

Bloomfield College senior standout Andre Dabney also played in the game and finished with four points, four rebounds, three assists and one steal for the East.

Burns, who was recently named the Daktronics NCAA Division II National Player of the Year, earned an invitation to the game after a stellar senior campaign. The Hamilton Township (N.J.) High product led the Rams in scoring (21.7 ppg) and rebounding (11.2 rpg), in helping Head Coach Herb Magee's team to a 20-10 overall record and a berth in the 2007 NCAA Tournament. Burns was also named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Player of the Year.

Dabney was a four-time, first team All-CACC pick and was the conference Player of the Year in 2004-05. He led the CACC in scoring this season (24.6) and 3-pointers made per-game (3.48). Dabney, who hails from Plainfield, NJ, also ranked third in free-throw percentage (.808), fourth in steals (1.93), fifth in 3-point shooting percentage (.409) and sixth in assists (3.59).
