April 4, 2007

WHITE PLAINS, NY - Five men's basketball players from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) have been named to the All-Metropolitan Division II Men's Basketball Team. Earning a place on the team were Andre Dabney of Bloomfield, Prince Jackson of Dominican, Jean Georges of Caldwell, Michael Pierrot of Felician and Sheanan Martinez of Nyack.

Dabney, Jackson and Georges were first team selections, while Pierrot and Martinez were second team picks. Bradd Wierzbicki of Queens was selected Player of the Year and Sal Lagano of NYIT was voted Coach of the Year.

Dabney, the 2006 Met Player of the Year, led the CACC in scoring this season with an average of 24.6 points per-game. He was named to the All-CACC first team for four straight years. The senior guard ranked first in the conference in 3-pointers made per game (3.48), sixth in assists (3.59), third in free-throw percentage (.808) and fourth in steals (1.93).

Jackson, a senior forward, stood sixth in the CACC in scoring (17.6) and was a first team All-CACC pick for the second consecutive year. He notched his 1,000th career point after playing only two years for the Chargers. Jackson also ranked 12th in the CACC in free-throw percentage (.752) and third in 3-point field-goal percentage (.421).

Georges, a senior guard, was a first team All-Conference choice after averaging 18.0 ppg and pacing the conference in 3-point shooting percentage (.438). George recorded his 1,000th career point in December and led the Cougars to the CACC Tournament Championship and a spot in the Division II NCAA Tournament. He was named the MVP of the Conference Tournament.

Pierrot had an outstanding season and was named to the All-CACC first team. He was one of two players in the league to average a double-double with 20.7 ppg and 10.4 rpg. In addition, he ranked second in the CACC in field-goal percentage (.551) and first in blocks per-game (2.33).

Martinez was one of two CACC players to record a triple-double this season. He accomplished the feat with 21 points, 13 rebounds and 13 assists against Bloomfield at home on Jan. 30. He was a second team All-CACC pick after averaging 15.6 ppg, 6.6 rpg, 4.44 apg and 2.37 steals per-game. He also ranked second in the CACC with a 1.67 assist:turnover ratio.
