BLOOMFIELD SET TO FACE STONEHILL IN NCAA TOURNAMENT

March 5, 2006

NEW HAVEN, CT - The Bloomfield College men's basketball team has received the eighth seed in the Northeast Region for the 2006 NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Tournament, it was announced Sunday evening. The Deacons will face top-seeded Stonehill College, who tied for the Northeast-10 Conference regular-season championship and was the runner-up in the conference tournament, on Saturday, March 11. The Skyhawks will host the regional tournament on Saturday, Sunday and Tuesday, March 11, 12 and 14, in Easton, MA.

The winners of each region (North Central, South Atlantic, South Central, Northeast, West, South, East, Great Lakes) will convene in Springfield, MA, to decide a national champion on March 22, 23 and 25.

Bloomfield won the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament by defeating Dominican, 70-64, on Saturday night to earn the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Deacons are currently 21-9 this season and have won eight of their last nine games, including five straight.

Senior guard Daniel Terrell led Bloomfield to the CACC Title by averaging 25.3 points per-game throughout the three-game tournament. He registered 31 points in the championship game on 11-for-17 shooting. Terrell, a First Team All-CACC performer, is averaging a team-best 20.8 points-per game this season.

Junior guard Andre Dabney, also a First Team All-CACC player, is next with an average of 19.0 points per-game, while senior center Shelton Powell checks in with averages of 11.7 points and 9.1 rebounds per-contest.

Stonehill is 23-6 this season and was upended by Saint Anselm, 77-61, in the NE-10 Tournament Championship game on Saturday night.

The Deacons defeated Saint Anselm last season in a first-round contest as a seven seed, 79-77, in Waltham, MA, before falling to eventual national runner-up, Bryant College, 76-59.
