CALDWELL, NJ - Men's basketball coach Mark Corino announced that John Reed will attend Caldwell College beginning in the fall of 2006 and play basketball for the Cougars. Reed, a 6-4 guard from Wall, N.J., was named all-Shore Conference and all-Monmouth County as a senior at Wall High School this past winter.
An excellent shooter, Reed led the Shore Conference in three-pointers made with 106 and ranked second in scoring at 22.3 points per game in 2006. This past season, Reed led Wall High School to its first state tournament win in over 25 years, and became the school's all-time leading scorer with 1,506 career points. Reed, who also excels in the classroom, was one of 20 students at Wall High School to receive the student leadership award from the Wall Foundation for Educational Excellence.
"We are glad to have John join our program," Corino said. "He possesses many of the qualities we look for, both on and off the court, and he brings another dimension to our team with his outside shooting."
The Cougars, who were 18-13 overall and 14-8 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference last season, graduated three seniors, including guards Mark Kelly (Oakhurst, NJ/Ocean Twp.) and Kelvin Reese (Teaneck, NJ/Teaneck).
