Wilmington Men's Golf Claims CACC Weekly Honors
NEW HAVEN, Conn. (March 28, 2012) - Wilmington University junior PJ Tighe (Logan, N.J.) and freshman Scott Davidson (Round Hill, Va.) were recognized as recipients of the Central Atlantic Conference (CACC) weekly golf awards. Tighe was named the CACC Golf Player of the Week, while Davidson was honored as the CACC Golf Rookie of the Week, for the period ending March 26.
CACC Player of the Week
PJ Tighe, Wilmington (Jr., 5-7, Logan, N.J.)
Finished fourth overall at the North Alabama Spring Classic while leading the Wildcats to a second-place team finish out of 17 squads. Shot 75-71-72 to finish at 218 overall.
CACC Rookie of the Week
Scott Davidson, Wilmington (Fr., 6-0, Round Hill, Va.)
Finished tied for 27th at the three-round North Alabama Spring Classic while posting rounds of 78-70-77 (225) while helping the Wildcats to a second-place finish at the 17-team event.
CACC Honorable Mention
Sam Deitte, Concordia (So., St. Louis, Mo.)
Finished tied for fifth at the St. Thomas Aquinas Invitational with rounds of 73-73 (146/+2).
Eutimio Fernandez-Meade, Concordia (Fr., Mexico City, Mexico)
Finished in a tie for 11th place at the St. Thomas Aquinas Invitational with rounds of 79-73 (152/+8).
Patrick McRae, Goldey Beacom (So., Markham, Canada)
Posted a two-round score of 146 (+2) en route to a fifth-place finish at the St. Thomas Aquinas Spring Invite and helping the Lightning to a sixth place finish as a team at the 14-team event.
Golf Team Notes
Concordia - Concordia finished T-9th at the St. Thomas Aquinas Spring Invitational at Rum Pointe Golf Club in Ocean City, Md. over the weekend. Sam Deitte (St. Louis, MO) led the team with a Top-5 performance as he shot a 146 (+2) in the two day event. The Clippers will play in a one day event on Monday in the Philadelphia U. Invitational at The ACE Club in Lafayette Hill, Pa. The team will round out the week with a two-day tournament in the Peter King Invitational at the Long Island National Golf Club in Riverhead, N.Y.
Goldey-Beacom - After finishing in 13th at the St. James Plantation Invitational last week, the Lightning responded and earned a sixth team finish in the St. Thomas Aquinas Spring Invitational at Rum Pointe Golf Club. Goldey-Beacom was one of five CACC teams competing at the event. Sophomore Patrick McRae posted his best round of the season in the opening round on Saturday with a two-under par score of 70. It marked his first round of par or lower this season. He also matched his highest finish of the year by placing fifth among the 69 competitors. The Lightning also tied for the tournament lead with a pair of eagles in the two-round tournament. Pace also had a pair of eagles.
Wilmington - The Wildcats were again led by junior PJ Tighe on the third round of competition, as he shot a team best 72 on Tuesday and finished in a tie for fourth overall. He finished the two-day, three-round tournament with 75-71-72 scores and a 218 total. He was tied with Thomas Mitchell of Huntingdon College in fourth, shooting two over par for the tournament. Wilmington led the field of 17 teams with the best tournament score on all Par 5 holes, coming in with a 4.95 average and collected a three-under par score for the tournament. They also collected the second most pars during the three rounds, finishing with 172. The Wildcats are back in action this Sunday, as they travel to Miami Beach, Fla. for a three-day tournament hosted by Barry University. The Barry University Buccaneer Invitational will be played at the Normandy Shores Golf Club from Sunday to Tuesday.
