FORMER GOLDEY-BEACOM GOLF STANDOUT TOBIASON QUALIFIES FOR U.S. OPEN
NEW HAVEN, Conn. (June 8, 2011) – Former Goldey-Beacom College golf standout Michael Tobiason Jr. earned a spot in the U.S. Open Monday by finishing in a tie for third at a sectional qualifier at Woodmont Country Club in Rockville, Md.
Tobiason shot a first-round 69 and a second-round 66. The top 10
finishers among the 112
golfers in the Rockville qualifier earned spots in the Open, which
will be played June 13-19 at Congressional Country Club in
Bethesda, Md.
The 27-year old Wilmington pro qualified for his first sectional by shooting a 70 at a local qualifier at Applebrook Golf Club in Malvern, Pa., to earn one of seven spots available.
Tobiason was a two-time All-American at Goldey-Beacom and turned pro in 2006. He has been playing on the Fuzion-Minor League Golf Tour.
Tobiason won medalist honors at the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship in each of his four years at Goldey-Beacom. GBC won conference titles in 2003, 2004 and 2005 with Tobiason leading the way. In 2006, Goldey-Beacom became the first team from the CACC to advance to the NCAA Division II National Championship.
