WATERBURY, Conn. - Post University’s golf team is currently ranked 52nd nationally, the highest ranking in school history. Oliver Hudak and Ross Earnshaw have combined to put Post University 18th nationally among freshmen golfers in Division II. The Eagles are the only school in the northeast ranked in the top 25.
“We play a national schedule against the best Division
II teams in the nation and when athletes see that, they come
knocking at the door because they want to participate,” said
Pete Stevens, Post Head Coach. “We have players all over
the world trying to contact us which says an awful lot of the
program. Oliver and Ross are very solid players and have been
impact players in their first year and as time goes on they will
get better with maturity and experience.”
Teams are ranked based on three factors including the number
of freshman in the team’s top five, strength of schedule, and
average score among freshmen golfers in the team’s starting
rotation. Post University is ranked 18th with a 205.929
strength of schedule rating and a 75.62 average score.
Henderson State University in Arkansas is ranked first
nationally with a team made up entirely of freshman and a high
strength of schedule rating of 539.921. However, their average
score is 74.80 per round, which is only 0.82 strokes ahead of the
Eagles.
Making this ranking more impressive is that Post University is
the only team ranked in the top-25 among freshman for schools
located in the northeast. A majority of the other ranked schools
are in North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, Arkansas, and the
southwest where they have the ability to train year round. Due to
the New England weather, they Eagles have limited winter training
opportunities on the golf course.
Post University’s fall season will come to a conclusion
following the New England Intercollegiate Golf Championship. They
will resume competition in search of their sixth consecutive CACC
title in the spring.
