WATERBURY, CT - Post University redshirt freshman Ryan Philipp reached the quarterfinals of the 105th Connecticut Amateur Golf Championship on June 18 at the Woodbridge Country Club. He represented the Pequabuck Golf Club in Pequabuck, Conn.

"Ryan is a tremendous talent," Post men's golf Interim Head Coach Tommy Dorso said. "We are very excited for him, and we are looking forward to him being the backbone of our program in the years to come."

Philipp was the 32nd qualifier for the match play portion of the CT Amateur and faced the number-one seed Richard Jung in the round of 32. Philipp won 1 up to advance to the next round.

In the round of 16, Philipp defeated the number-16 seed David Zeid 4 and 3 to advance to the quarterfinals.

However, the run ended for Philipp as he was defeated by the number-nine seed Brent Dietz of Cedar Knob Golf Course 6 and 5.

"He was under the radar coming out of high school," Doro added. "He is an excellent ball striker and excels in pressure situations, which is what you need in college golf. But most importantly he is a great person and we are thankful to have him."

The Eagles reached the NCAA Division II Northeast Regional Championships for the third time in as many years this past season, in addition to capturing its second consecutive Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men's Golf Championship.

Dorso, who was named CACC Coach of the Year, is serving as interim head coach while Head Coach Pete Stevens is serving in the U.S. Army in Iraq.
