MONDAY'S CACC GOLF CANCELED; 18 HOLES TO BE PLAYED TUESDAY

April 15, 2007

MIDDLETOWN, DE - Inclement weather has caused the cancellation of Monday's opening round of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Golf Championships in Middletown, DE. The tournament will resume Tuesday with an 11:00 am start. Because of the weather, the tournament will consist of 18 holes instead of the scheduled 36.

Post University will be looking for a repeat after unseating 3-time defending champion Goldey-Beacom last year. The Eagles defeated the Lightning by three strokes (616-619) to take the 2006 title. Post returns four of its top five golfers from last year and its only loss, Tommy Dorso, Jr., is now the head coach for the Eagles.

It should prove to be a competitive tournament as nine members of the 2006 All-CACC team return, including Steve Cutler of Goldey-Beacom, who tied for the individual championship last year. Also returning are Calum Malcolm, Jamie Blake and Lloyd Notely of Post, Brian Mackey, Tony Viola and A.J. Lee of Dominican, John Purple of Wilmington and Jonathan Carr of Nyack.

Cutler posted a two-day total of 144 (73, 71) last year to tie with teammate Michael Tobiason for the individual championship at Lyman Orchards Golf Club in Middlefield, CT. Post had four golfers finish in the top 10, led by Malcolm in third place with a score of 147 (73, 74). Purple placed fourth after carding a 153 (74, 79) and Dorso rounded out the top five with a 155 (76, 79). Purple was named the CACC Rookie of the Year for his performance.

Goldey-Beacom returns three of its top five golfers from last year, while Dominican returns its top five after finishing in third place with a score of 639.

The winner of the tournament will receive the CACC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Northeast Region Tournament.
