POST GOLF FINISHES FIRST IN NEIGA DIVISION II CHAMPIONSHIP

October 18, 2005

Brewster, MA-The Post University Eagles men?s golf team gave head coach Pete Stevens his 150th career win with a Division II Championship at the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championships.

The Eagles were the best finisher of the Division II programs, including Bryant who is the number-one team in the region. Post finished seventh out of 45 Division I, II, and III teams. The Eagles bested six D-I programs, including Quinnipiac, Fairfield, Providence, and Harvard. The Eagles two-day 625 total placed them at +49 behind only the University of Connecticut, Rhode Island, Dartmouth, Central Connecticut, Husson College, and Brown University.

England?s Lloyd Notely led the Eagles. The understated freshman shot rounds of 75 and 72 (+3 overall) for a tied for fifth place finish out of 226 golfers.

Notely was +4 after five holes on his second round but shot an even-par 72 in the windy conditions at Captain?s Country Club.

?I like playing in the wind,? said Notely. ?Most of the guys were playing well and you just try to play as good as you can. I?m starting to get the feel of the American courses and learning how to manage my golf ball around them.?

Stevens, now with a career 171-69-1 record was pleased with his team?s first title.

?These guys came through in the clutch,? he said. ?They grinded it out and now we have a very prestigious championship. It?s a very special way to end the fall season.?

The team will gain important strength of schedule points for the defeat of the Division I programs and will likely improve on the third place regional ranking they took into the week.

"Our goal here is to be the number one team in the region this year and then compete at the national level," said Stevens. "If we can take this into the spring we have as good a chance as any team."

Post will be off until the spring when they travel to the Carolinas for their annual spring golf trip.
