GOLDEY-BEACOM WINS NORTHEAST REGION GOLF TOURNAMENT; ADVANCES TO NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP

WHEELING, WV ? Goldey-Beacom College, representing the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC), won the NCAA Division II Northeast Region golf tournament today at Speidel Golf Club in Wheeling, WV. As a result of their victory, the Lightning advance to the NCAA Division II National Championship, which will take place on May 16-19 at the Resort at Glade Springs in Daniels, WV.

Leading by just five strokes heading in to the final day of the three-day tournament, the Lightning dominated the competition to eventually win by 24 strokes over four-time defending champion, Bryant University, and St. Thomas Aquinas. GBC fired a team total of 296 today and combined to shoot 928 for the tournament. Bryant and St. Thomas Aquinas both carded scores of 952.

Michael Tobiason led the way for the Lightning by firing a 3-under par 68 today en route to the individual title. He carded a 221 overall after shooting 77 and 76 during the first two rounds, four strokes clear of second-place finisher Adam Goinsalvos of Southern New Hampshire.

Mark Agnew improved 12 strokes from yesterday and shot an even-par 71 today on the way to a fifth-place finish. He shot 81 and 83 during the first two rounds for a total of 234.

Steve Cutler was next in a tie for 12th place with a total of 238. Cutler was one of the most consistent golfers in the tournament and fired rounds of 79, 79 and 80. Justin Grossman was the final scorer for the Lightning in a tie for 15th place with a three-round total of 240 (80, 81, 79).

CACC members Dominican College (957) and Post University (971) finished fourth and seventh, respectively. The Chargers had two golfers finish in the top-10 in Justin Jacarusso (fourth place, 233) and Brian Mackey (T-8th, 237). Tommy Dorso finished in seventh place for the Eagles with a total of 236.
