DORSO TAKES OVER AS POST INTERIM GOLF COACH

July 6, 2006

WATERBURY - The Post University athletic department announced that Tommy Dorso Jr. has been named interim men's golf coach. Dorso takes the reigns of the 2005 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Champions from Pete Stevens, who was called up to active duty in the United States Army. In addition, Post men's basketball Head Coach Mike Donnelly will serve as an assistant coach for the golf team.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out with Pete and his family, along with the rest of the men and women serving our Country in the armed forces," Acting Director of Athletics Karin Mann said. "We feel that Tom and Mike, will do an outstanding job with the team, until Pete is able to return, and assume his duties with the golf program."

Dorso, who recently won the 2006 Waterbury Republican-American Golf Championship, helped guide the Eagles, to the CACC team title with a two-round score of 155 (76, 79). Dorso also finished fifth in the 2005 NCAA Division II Super Regional in Jackson, N.J. The Crosby High School graduate was the first student-athlete to participate in the NCAA's for Post, as he made an individual appearance in the 2004 NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championships.

"I'm excited to take the responsibility of this program from Coach Stevens," Dorso said. "I feel we have one of the best programs in the northeast, and the only thing left is for us to go out and prove it."

Donnelly, who will enter his fourth campaign as the men's basketball mentor, will assist Dorso in his first year at the helm of the men's golf program. Donnelly played two seasons at Central Connecticut State and was named captain as a sophomore in 1995. He garnered a spot on the Eastern Basketball honorable mention All-East Coast team. He transferred to Sacred Heart and started his final two seasons with the Pioneers.

"I look forward to the opportunity to work with the players, because they are great kids and proven winners," Donnelly stated. "I'm happy to be associated with the program, and hold down the fort for the next year until Coach Stevens is able to return."
